Overview of the job

This is a hands-on, fully in-sourced, deep technical engineering role.

A successful candidate is a highly collaborative problem-solving engineer who is good in asking questions.

A great candidate is motivated by coaching, guiding, and pair programming with junior and mid-level engineers. He/ She finds fulfillment in seeing colleagues build functional, testable, and reliable digital systems.

Career progression for this role includes continuing with technical specialization, or adjacent technical role, or people management, within the organization and broader company.

Your team

The DevX organization will activate P&G’s Digital for Growth and Value by accelerating Software Delivery Teams across the entire company.

The team is global and has around 40+ members, spread across Asia: Philippines, Europe Poland, Germany, UK, and NALA: US, and Costa Rica.

35% Senior Engineers and Senior Technical Product Managers. 35% women team composition, with diverse multiple members from under-represented backgrounds.

One-third of the team’s population is in Manila, with an average tenure of 5 years in P&G, mix of fresh university graduates from various schools (no school monopoly), former interns, internal transfers from other P&G teams, and external experience hires. This is a new additional role.

Supporting time zone

European hours, 1 PM to 10 PM Local Manila time

How success looks like

Functional Performance: 80% hands-on engineering. Success metrics include code test coverage, change failure rate, story velocity, impact and delivery of key features for the customers. Compliance scores regarding Technical, Security, Cloud, Software Development policies and standards.

Revenue and Profits: Our platform is largely driven by how we enable our brands and other software development teams. Driving performance and efficiency should enable cost reduction. Members are expected to drive down infrastructure costs by optimizing solutions and driving scale.

Time-based Performance: Senior members are expected to deliver major features in the first 90 days, with a focus on learning our systems in the first 30 days.

Employee Growth: Senior platform engineer baseline expectations are that you deliver with excellence and grow in your technical capabilities, while understanding what to prioritize to drive value for the team. Senior members are expected to help and grow junior members to thrive and improve skills.

Responsibilities of the role

Engineering Execution of user stories from a groomed product backlog.Working with product managers and other engineers to refine and clarify backlog items.Proper Git SCM habits, clear and well-defined pull requests meeting our Definition of Done.Delivery of testable and idiomatic backend code.Technical coaching and guidance to junior members.

Job Qualifications

Technical Skills Must-have:

Served as hands-on tech lead for the delivery of a major software project from zero to one (at least 5000 DAU)5+ years’ experience in a static typed compiled language (Java, C, C++, C#, Golang, Rust)5+ years’ experience working with SQL databases (Postgres preferred. MySQL, Oracle, or mysql would be considered)Deep experience in SQL Query authoring, optimization.Strong expertise in Git. Good understanding of how to work in large teams, avoid, and deal with merge conflicts

Technical Skills Nice-to-have:

Experience implementing Event-based Architecture, at scaleExperience with WebhookExperience with GCP tools (eventarc, pub/sub, BigQuery)Experience with KafkaExperience building applications using containers (Docker, Cloud Run, Kubernetes)

Collaboration, Communication, Coaching Skills:
