Compensation Range

About This Job
The IT Manager II – Database Warehouse role involves strategic planning, translating high-level strategies into actionable initiatives, and managing day-to-day operations of cloud data platforms. The Manager will be responsible for overall management and development of assigned team, collaborating with senior leadership and business teams to implement our enterprise data strategy and addressing capability gaps in real-time analytics, channel integration, and advanced cloud capabilities.
This position will be Flexible: Work both on-site and remote with schedule agreed upon by manager. Will be on-site when business needs arise and for “moments that matter.”
Essential Functions
Lead data platform administration while partnering with various stakeholders, including data engineering, data governance, IT, and business leaders. Collaborate closely with these teams to ensure data platforms and services meet current and future needs.
Create and execute a plan to upskill the team to proficiency on our new software stack
Partner with enterprise and domain architects to deliver technical innovations in support of emerging business needs and progressing these ideas from concepts to experiments to scaled models with focus on flexibility, reuse, and overarching extensibility
Own the cost and performance optimization process for the Lakehouse. This would include regular review of the worst performing and most expensive workflows for optimization opportunities and regular readouts to stakeholders of efforts and results.
Partner with domain architects and key stakeholders to address stakeholder concerns around process complexity, bottlenecks, and delays
Partner with the Data Service Owner to maintain a rolling 3-year plan to address capability gaps and technical debt
Support ongoing education efforts to bring awareness to stakeholders of platform capabilities and best practices
Lead, mentor and motivate team members to implement the department strategy and manage department workflow with guidance on departmental projects/issues, and provide coaching and development opportunities appropriate to each direct report's individual needs
Perform all necessary management functions, including hiring, evaluations, annual increase allocations and disciplinary action as required
Communicate decisions, priorities and relevant information to team members effectively
Support budget management, planning and expenditure
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills & Abilities Required
In depth knowledge of best practices for managing and optimizing technical platforms and processes, including Lakehouse architecture, ETL/ELT and data store patterns, CI/CD management, containerization, orchestration tools, and data integrations
Ability to manage vendors and contractors to enable operational support and guide organizational preferences in tooling and processes
Knowledge of financial institution security and compliance requirements preferred
Strong troubleshooting skills
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to apply discretion and sound judgement to efficiently and effectively solve problems
Ability to drive results and balance management of organizational risk and meeting goals of the business
Strong leadership skills with ability to motivate team members and foster a positive team environment that gives way to collaboration and unified goals
Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the company, clearly expressing ideas and concepts both verbally and in writing

Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
7+ years Cloud Platform Engineering or related experience required
4+ years leadership/supervisory experience required
Azure DevOps, Databricks, Terraform, Puppet, Kubernetes and Rancher, and/or Apigee experience preferred

At Commerce, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each situation. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay is $116,500 to $139,000 annually. This position will be eligible for additional compensation through performance-based incentive plan(s) that will correspond to meeting performance goals.
