Job Description: The Information Technology (IT) Manager II for Support Services, under direction and reporting to the Director of IT for the College of Agriculture & Life Science, leads and manages specific AgriLife Information Technology (AIT) projects and operations in support of enterprise level strategy. The IT Manager II may participate in project teams, provide progress reports, and collaborate with other IT managers and stakeholders to ensure effective IT service delivery. This role requires a blend of leadership, technical expertise, project management, and a focus on continuous improvement to ensure the effective delivery of AIT services aligned with organizational goals. Responsibilities: + Assists in leading, motivating, developing, and coaching technical staff under the direction and guidance of senior managers and the IT Director. This includes supporting recruitment, hiring, and supervision of a multi-disciplined and senior IT team. Models ethical, regulatory, and performance standards and champions the workplace culture of Texas A&M University System members. Assists in managing personnel issues and provides resolution recommendations to senior leadership. Promotes open information sharing, stakeholder commitment, collaboration, and cooperation across the organization. Identifies performance gaps and recommends operational efficiencies to leadership. + Assists in prioritizing, scheduling, and managing the daily activities of the IT team under the supervision of senior leadership. Supports the development of project plans and the preparation of IT documentation and reports for stakeholders and upper management. Coordinates activities with other organizational units and vendors in alignment with organizational direction. + Supports the design, control, and improvement of processes that ensure the delivery of large-scale IT services, under the oversight of senior managers. Monitors and analyzes workstation service metrics and assists in implementing continuous improvement methodologies, including corrective actions, as recommended by leadership. + Performs limited advanced technical duties in support of the team, risk and security operations, and project management efforts. Serves as an IT resource for other staff members. + Establishes and maintains close, collaborative working relationships with stakeholders, coworkers, and vendors. Assists in developing and implementing stakeholder engagement standards and methods as directed by leadership. Trains new hires in these methods and delivers approved project management documentation to stakeholders. + Evaluates hardware and instrumentation needs of the organization. May attends events, as approved, to explore new technologies and services, providing recommendations to senior leadership for procurement of third-party hardware or services to address identified gaps. + Assists in the management and maintenance of multiple computer systems and approved projects under the guidance of senior leadership. + Participates in ongoing professional development with a special emphasis on technical skill advancement, leadership development, risk and security, and industry-related expertise, as encouraged by leadership. + Participates in unit committees, the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences governance program, and other organizational projects and initiatives as needed to promote technology alignment and support organizational goals. + This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Required Qualifications: + Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience. + Five years of related experience in IT, with at least one (1) year of direct IT management. + Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and machine learning (AI) applications. + Ability to adapt to new and emerging technology and policy changes. + Strong attention to detail, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and communicate technical and non-technical information clearly. + Ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships directly with stakeholders. + Knowledge of team leadership methods: including motivating team and group processes, team collaboration, empowering, mentoring, training, ethical integrity, and supervising staff. + Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively within a team and across departments. Preferred Qualifications: + Experience with higher education, IT governance, or committee participation. + Familiarity with instructional technology planning and lifecycle management in large-scale academic environments. + Working knowledge of disaster recovery planning and implementation. + Experience coordinating IT projects and stakeholder communications. + Knowledge of strategic thinking and planning. + Certifications such as ITIL, BRMP, Security+, CAPM, or PMP. Other Requirements: + Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST. + Work is performed in an office environment. + Occasional exposure to loud noise and outdoor environments when traversing managed areas and research sites. + Must be able to move and transport heavy objects up to 50 pounds. + Must be able to position self to install equipment and occasionally ascend/descend ladders. + A company vehicle is not provided.
