About the role
We are looking for an infrastructure focussed Technical Architect to join Technology Services. Reporting to the Head of Infrastructure Architecture, your role will be to provide IT infrastructure direction, patterns and governance for design activity in response to internal customer requests and project demands. You will create outline architectures and work directly with Enterprise Architects to support strategic infrastructure direction and ensure agreement across multiple infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and consultancy for cross-functional and cross-technology projects. This will include engaging internal IT teams and 3rd party vendors across Walgreens Boots Alliance. Providing outline architectures, building blocks and direction for end-to-end solutions to meet the requirements of the business and ensure these are delivered
Work with Enterprise Architects and Solution Architects to maintain appropriate architecture documentation to support IT solutions
Work with International Service Owners and architects to identify opportunities, and build solutions following the defined strategies to offer new technology, service improvements and operating models
Define technical architecture and technical roadmap design, along with the supporting architecture principles and patterns
Participate in project governance bodies, for the approval of solution design, along with quality assurance in divisional and broader group IT governance
Be an active team member of the Architecture & Design practice and support colleagues through collaborative peer reviews, standards compliance checks and due diligence
Work with the delivery and operations teams to support problem resolution as a point of escalation for root cause analysis and remediation planning.
What you'll need to have
Experience of solution areas including infrastructure, public cloud, transformation and migration, security, business analysis, applications, integration, service management and an understanding of how all of these interact to arrive to an end-to-end solution
Understanding of the business, commercial and technical requirements to write clear and concise outlines and identify important architecture or design decisions is important.
You will need to have experience dealing with multiple senior stakeholders, leading workshops and reducing complex ideas to simple terms and expressing rationales for decision-making to both a technical and non-technical audience
Experience with complex projects and programmes, requiring available, disaster recovery and business continuity compliant systems in a large international enterprise
Be able to write clear and technical documentation covering outline architectures, infrastructure building blocks, patterns and roadmaps
Previous working experience in infrastructure platform design and clear understanding of the possible effects and the impact to the organisation and operation of IT.
Technical Skills
This is not a hands-on engineering role, but a technical understanding and functional experience in any four of these areas is desirable:
Private and public Cloud technologies – Azure Cloud migration and co-existence techniques. Full range of Azure IaaS, PaaS, SaaS products including Azure SQL, Cosmos DB and Azure App services
Containerisation, microservices and orchestration technologies – e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift,
Network solutions – Cisco switching, routing, wireless, load balancers, VPN, MPLS WAN, SD-WAN, QoS, ACI, Azure ExpressRoute,
Security solutions - Email, endpoint, web, firewalls, IPS, IDS, WAF, PKI, VPN, MFA and other identity management services
Telephony and collaboration – Traditional PBX and VOIP platforms across an international setting. Microsoft Skype and Teams voice integration
Server infrastructure – Virtualisation, storage, managed backup, hyper-converged platforms
Client mobility – Mobile device and app management, security

Public Cloud technologies – AWS, GCP
Experience of middleware technologies – e.g. Software AG, WebSphere, JBoss
Experience in Infrastructure and application management and monitoring platforms
Web application development understanding and the supporting infrastructure required to improve and support
Knowledge of formal methodologies and frameworks – e.g. TOGAF, ITIL, COBIT, AGILE
Working knowledge of data protection and compliance standards of PCI-DSS and GDPR
