Compensation Range

Annual Salary: $102,500.00 - $121,000.00 (Amount based on relevant experience, skills, and competencies.)

The IT Business Management Consultant plays a key role to link the Business and IT together in a way that collaboratively achieves both business and technology goals while also achieving key results for the Bank and delivering value to our customers.  As an IT Business Management Consultant, you collaborate with multiple Business and IT Partners, fostering two-way communication and focus on augmenting IT’s value as a strategic partner to the Business.  A successful IT Business Management Consultant develops Business and IT relationships, grows satisfaction with the IT Services that the Business consumes, and helps IT become a better strategic partner at providing high quality, innovative technology services that enable the Bank to achieve objectives and deliver value to customers over the long-term.

Essential Functions

Nurture and grow the relationship with senior Business Partners who rely on IT Services, focused on growing their ongoing satisfaction with IT as reliable technology providers that help them achieve business outcomes 

Uncover what business partners and their customers are trying to achieve, their upcoming needs and capability gaps, to capture and convey this information in a structured and usable way to multiple IT Service teams who will provide proactive expertise in the planning of new technology services

Communicate the IT strategies and key initiatives to help business partners understand how IT’s roadmap may impact them or their upcoming needs and initiatives

Guide the business thru the IT Engagement Model to enable them to efficiently navigate IT’s processes from strategy to execution

Provide holistic business partner account reviews to ensure that each business partner is aware of the investment and value being delivered from services across IT and listen for pain points/opportunities in which IT can improve its services

Define, govern, and maintain the IT service planning function, in which IT discovers and plans for future technology needs and investments

Train and coach multiple IT service family teams to create, update and maintain their IT service plans and roadmaps, as well as provide and mature the tools and templates available

Lead/facilitate a regular cadence of forums for IT service owners to create visibility and drive collaborative dialogue about their technology service plans/roadmaps across stakeholders to efficiently progress work along the IT Engagement Model

Develop, leverage, govern, and maintain a business architecture function that enables a standard, repeatable IT service planning function. This includes creating views and artifacts such as value streams and capability maps that enable service family teams to create comprehensive IT Service Plans that account for change improvements in people, process, information, and technology (PPIT).  It may also include conducting deep dive capability assessments to analyze the performance of business capabilities, develop capability heat maps, and recommend opportunities for the continuous improvement of the product / service that the IT service family team can incorporate into their service plan/roadmap.

Leverage consultative selling techniques (needs-based selling) that focuses on uncovering the Businesses' needs, problems and challenges through open-ended questions and dynamic listening 

Provide consulting services focused on helping business partners across the organization operate more effectively by leveraging the business architecture framework to analyze, diagnose, and recommend improvements across people, process, information, and technology (PPIT).  May include stakeholder interviews, external research, facilitating workshops, focus groups, surveys, and deep dive capability assessments to analyze the performance of business capabilities to identify issues/inconsistencies, uncover insights/opportunities, map processes (current or future state), ideate potential solutions, analyze options, develop recommendations, and guide dialogue for leaders to align on decisions and next steps.

Shape/guide a new strategic initiative that does not yet have a defined owner or that needs enterprise-wide guidance and alignment across business teams. This may include leading / facilitating workshops, stakeholder interviews, documentation, and finding a permanent owner to progress the work through IT and the Business.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Strong knowledge of consulting, technology and banking

Ability to create technology, business and product visuals applicable to different audiences’ needs

Ability to present information and recommendations in a clear and succinct way and able to focus on key points to portray the intended message or purpose

Ability to effectively research, analyze, problem-solve and integrate complex perspectives

Ability to serve as a source of expert advice, influence change, and frame information in a broader organizational context

Ability to be effective at facilitating diverse groups of people, both in-person and remote, asking the right probing questions to spark dialogue and engage stakeholders to take action

Ability to develop strong relationships with partners (both from IT and the Business) and effective at consulting at all levels of the organization, including C-suite executives

Ability to embrace ambiguities and lead teams to reach shared goals and understandings

Excellent interviewing and active listening skills, maintaining a strategic and customer-centric perspective

Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities

Inquisitive, agile, and strong team player with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values

Advanced level proficiency with Microsoft suite of products  

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required

5+ years IT business management or technology consulting experience required

Program, project, or product management experience, particularly relevant to project or product delivery of a technical nature preferred

Agile, design thinking, and innovation experience within banking or financial services preferred

Strategic planning & analysis knowledge preferred

Diagramming, workflows and/or visual story telling experience preferred

Facilitating certification preferred

Business Architecture certification preferred

Lean Six Sigma certification preferred​

The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable differentials (geographic, bilingual, or shift) that could be associated with the position or where it is filled. At Commerce, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each situation. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay is $102,500 to $121,000 annually.  This position will be eligible for additional compensation through performance-based incentive plan(s) that will correspond to meeting performance goals.
