Position Summary:
Marathon Petroleum’s Internal Audit Department provides independent and objective assessments to determine whether all significant risks are identified and appropriately reported to the Board and Executive Management, to evaluate whether risks are adequately controlled, and to improve the efficiency of governance processes, risk management, and internal controls.
We are currently looking for an IT Auditor I, who would primarily be responsible for performing infrastructure audits. The IT Audit team is responsible for the high-quality execution of IT infrastructure, application, and project audits. Infrastructure audits focus on systems and technology that support and secure MPC’s and MPLX’s applications, with a focus on areas such as cybersecurity, computer applications, technology infrastructure, and systems development disciplines. Technology infrastructure can include Windows, UNIX, VMWare ESX, SQL, Oracle, SAP, business, and process control networks.
Application audits focus on automated functionality and data integrity that support business processes such as segregation of duties, configuration management, system interfaces, and data processing. The application systems may include financial Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control testing and regulatory compliance reviews for MPC and MPLX. Project audits are assessments over key initiatives to figure out whether intended business objectives were met and to identify risks or issues early.
Reporting to an IT Audit Manager, the IT auditor I will have responsibility for assisting in the independent and objective assurance activity designed to improve the organization’s operations and compliance with key regulations by evaluating and improving the efficiency of risk management, control, and governance processes specifically around the company’s IT infrastructure, operations, and security programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct audit assignments in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditor’s International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, MPC’s Internal Audit methodology, company policies and procedures.Work as staff auditor on engagements:Interview business unit personnel to determine key risks and controls related to computer systems, applications, and supporting infrastructure utilized by the business.Assist in planning the audit scope and develop applicable audit program test procedures to address risks in assigned areas.Perform the audit fieldwork; obtain, analyze, and appraise technical or operating data from within the existing computer environment as a basis for making an objective opinion on the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls in place to properly mitigate internal and external risk to data and system integrity.Leverage data analytics to facilitate meaningful audit scoping and test procedures (e.g., stratification and selection of a high-risk audit sample, full population testing, etc.).Document test of control results logically and concisely in conformance with department methodology; annotate workpapers sufficiently to support Lead and Manager reviews; ensure conclusions reached on control effectiveness are sufficiently supported.Advise client and audit management of issues identified throughout the audit, and work with client management to identify corrective action plans to effectively mitigate the deficiency and risk of a reoccurrence.Maintain a positive work environment within the engagement team.Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required; B.S. in Business, Computer Science, Management Information Systems/technology, or other IT related degree.0 – 2 years of information systems, audit, or business experience is required, with a strong background of knowledge in IT technologies and applications. Professional certification is preferred (pursuing or achieved): Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Cybersecurity, or other related industry certifications.Skills:
