IT Application Engineer, World Wide Grocery Store Tech
Description Amazon is seeking an Application Engineer with physical stores checkout domain knowledge along with strong technology skills to join our Checkout Engineering team in Austin, TX. This role will focus on key checkout applications i.e. point-of-sale (POS), self-checkout (SCO), enhancements and integration with other system and services for WFM stores. The ideal candidate will own the "how" of delivering robust, scalable solutions, while contributing significantly to the "what" of our checkout systems. You will be the technical driving force behind implementation strategies and best practices, playing a key role in shaping the design and development of these critical systems. Key job responsibilities Perform gap analysis to determine our checkout system configuration and development changes. Building tools and services supporting checkout systems Create design specifications for feature enhancements and integration points of POS systems Building monitoring solutions for effective detection and triage of issue Developing automated alerting systems based on transaction log analysis Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet business requirements A day in the life As an Application Engineer, your day centers on delivering enhancements and driving operational excellence within our SAFe framework. You'll tackle a prioritized backlog of features, improvements, focusing on system performance, and reliability. Collaborating with tech and cross-functional teams, you'll progress high-priority items while providing daily support for critical POS functions. You'll participate in SAFe ceremonies, and engage in technical and architecture discussions. Your expertise will be crucial in translating stakeholder requirements into innovative technical solutions that propel our global retail operations forward. About the team The World Wide Grocery Store Tech (WWGST) Checkout Engineering team is a 2-Pizza team, an agile group specializing in grocery technology. We manage global checkout technology for Whole Foods Market stores. Our team uses our deep grocery and engineering expertise to deliver efficient, compliant checkout experiences. Working closely with cross-functional partners, we ensure efficient operations while continuously improving our systems. Our mission is to drive innovative solutions that enhance the Customer shopping experience. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience Create queries against relational or no sql data stores to troubleshoot, develop metrics, and create ad-hoc reporting as needed. Demonstrated ability to understand large-scale distributed systems, preferably in payment systems or POS Experience designing monitoring and alerting systems for critical business applications Root cause analysis and complex problem solving skills are important. Interact with business customers to understand and document their business processes and requirements. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Checkout systems i.e. POS, SCO.
