JOB SUMMARY:
Assist in managing intellectual property program for the Company including patent prosecution, trademark management, trade secret protection, enforcement of intellectual property rights, intellectual property licensing, and development and execution of intellectual property strategies. Work with multiple business unit groups on raising general intellectual property awareness, training and identifying protectable intellectual property. Additionally, will work closely with business unit management to establish and maintain appropriate policies and procedures with respect to the development and protection of the company’s intellectual property assets. Applicants to this position should expect to work very closely with engineers across the Company and will get significant exposure our advanced design and new product development teams and programs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Assist in leading development and implementation of strategies, policies, procedures, and practices to appropriately protect Company innovations, brands, data, and other intellectual property assets.

· Serve as a member of Company Intellectual Property Review Team to review IP program implementation and effectiveness and determine IP protection actions.

· Work closely with engineering organizations to proactively identify protectable innovations and maintain freedom to practice by screening competitor patents.

· Critically supervise and manage outside intellectual property counsel to ensure high-quality, cost-effective service.

· Support Supply Chain organization with negotiation of intellectual property terms with suppliers.

· Identify IP monetization opportunities and work with functional areas and Textron Innovations to maximize IP licensing revenue.

· Assist in trademark portfolio management including new trademark filing decisions, trademark renewal decisions, and portfolio enforcement.

· Serve as one of the Company’s representatives on Textron Intellectual Property Council to identify and share IP best practices.

· Develop and deliver training on intellectual property matters for management and functional areas to expand IP understanding and awareness.

· Provide IP support to all attorneys, for their respective functions.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering or other technical field.

· Minimum of 2 years engineering experience required

· Intellectual Property experience preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:

Technical knowledge of Textron Aviation products and engineering practices as well as a strong grasp on aviation fundamentals.Familiarity with product design and failure analysis methods.Knowledge of Intellectual Property concepts and associated laws, including patents, trade secrets, trademarks, and copyrights preferred.Knowledge of Intellectual Property application filings, Patent Application submission processes and Patent Invention Disclosures preferred.Ability to work independently.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to multi-task in a very fast paced environment.Strong oral and written communication skills.Ability to facilitate presentations, training and technical discussions.
