American National is seeking a full-time, Manager for our Investment Accounting & Reporting team who will work onsite at one of the following offices: League City or Houston Texas; and Des Moines, Iowa. The role is crucial for overseeing the accounting and reporting of the company’s investments under U.S. Statutory and GAAP standards. You will maintain internal controls, support audits, and provide strategic insight to enhance new investment strategies and ensure regulatory compliance. To be successful in the position you will have both GAAP and Statutory knowledge, investment accounting, financial reporting, auditing experience, and formal leadership.

What You’ll Do:
Lead a team of investment accounting professionals Oversee and manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting close and reporting for investment accounting. Oversee the accounting and reporting for the company’s investments, ensuring compliance with U.S. Statutory and GAAP standards Deliver critical maintenance of internal controls and support audit processes Provide strategic insights to enhance new investment strategies and ensure regulatory compliance Collaborate with internal teams to offer solutions for investment strategies, accounting requirements, and operational changes Serve as the SOX control owner for investment accounting processes, ensuring that all policies, procedures, and controls are well-documented Manage and produce investment reporting schedules and disclosures for the STAT and GAAP quarterly and annual statements
What We Are Looking For:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field or relevant work experience considered CPA, CFA, and/or MBA (Preferred) Extensive knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting Professional experience in investment accounting, financial reporting, and auditing within the insurance industry is strongly preferred Formal leadership experience, with a proven record of leading a team of accounting professionals Ability to collaborate with other teams, challenge current processes, and drive efficiencies Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet critical deadlines, and work well under pressure. Availability to work outside of normal business hours during peak periods. Willingness to travel (Estimated to be around 10%)
Great to Have:
Statutory and GAAP accounting and reporting knowledge for fixed income investments, mortgage loans, and real estate Experience with SAP financial systems, investment software preferred (i.e., PAM, Aladdin, Clearwater, CAMRA)
