Investigator

The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to the Birmingham Division Area Investigator in performing duties of the Corporate Security Department. This includes assisting with all related investigations, special projects, security training, physical security surveys and assessments, and other support duties as required. The incumbent will serve as backup for the Area Investigator in the Area Investigator's absence and will also provide security services support in other areas of the Company as required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct and assist with different types of internal and external investigations. Obtain criminal warrants and successfully prosecute offenders. Testify in court proceedings. Prepare detailed, typed reports for management and criminal prosecutions. Enter cases and maintain up-to-date records in Corporate Security's D3 Security Management System. Coordinate and assist with special projects and events for Corporate Security as needed. Develop and present security/personal safety programs and other training programs to employees. Establish and maintain liaison with local law enforcement agencies, company personnel, and other resources. Participate in job related professional organizations. Develop and assist with the implementation of emergency response plans.Candidates with the following preferred qualifications are encouraged to apply:
Education:
Bachelor of Science or higher degree in a criminal justice or related field is preferred. Professional security certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Professional Investigator (CPI), Physical Security Professional (PSP), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) are considered a plus.Experience:
Minimum of 5 years Law Enforcement, Corporate Security, or Military Police experience that includes at least 3 years of investigative experience is preferred.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge and/or experience in investigative and interviewing techniques, analytical skills, crime scene inspection, rules of evidence, photography, and physical surveillance. Excellent oral and written communications skills, customer relations skills and interpersonal skills are a requisite. Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, while prioritizing work assignments and other work products. Must be efficient in typing investigative reports and possess above average computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet usage. Working knowledge of computer data base systems for use in performing the job (D3 Security Management System, Customer Service System, Alacourt, Accurint, etc.) is preferred. Must be self-directed and have the ability to work with minimal supervision.Other Requirements:
Must successfully complete background investigation, psychological testing and firearms qualification. Must be available for short notice overnight travel, call-out on weekends, and night work related to investigations and other Corporate Security activities. Must be able and available to work in the field to conduct investigations and respond to storm disasters and other emergencies. Be of high integrity and moral character. The ability to legally carry a concealed weapon and qualify with a firearm is required. Must establish residence in Alabama and live within a 50-mile radius of the Alabama Power Corporate Headquarters.
