Internship Sequencing Data Harmonization and Analysis, RNAHub, Pharma Research and Development

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

Who we are

The Therapeutic Modalities (TMo) function is part of the Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) organization. TMo discovers and optimizes innovative drug candidates including small molecules, biologics and nucleic acid-based therapeutics in order to deliver novel therapeutic approaches across all pRED Discovery and Translational areas (DTAs).

The Opportunity

As an intern in TMo, you will be part of the RNAHub, a multidisciplinary research community that brings together scientists from all across pRED, with the ultimate goal of developing novel oligonucleotide-based therapeutics as part of Roche’s mission to create transformative medicines for patients all around the world.

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented intern to join our team for a unique project focused on building an integrated sequencing data set. In this role, you will be instrumental in harmonizing data, developing data integration pipelines, and creating powerful visualization tools to accelerate our research and discovery efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Data Curation & Harmonization: Collect, gather, and harmonize metadata from a wide range of existing in-vitro studies to create a unified dataset.

Pipeline Development: Establish a robust pipeline for the continuous integration of new RNA-seq datasets, ensuring scalability and data integrity.

Data Integration & Analysis: Explore data integration possibilities and perform exploratory analysis to uncover novel insights from the integrated dataset.

Who you are

You are enrolled in or have recently completed a degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.

You are looking for a 6-month internship.

Strong programming skills in Python.

Experience with data manipulation and analysis libraries (e.g., pandas, tidyverse, anndata, scanpy).

Familiarity with the fundamentals of molecular biology and next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, especially RNA-seq.

Proactive, well-organized, and eager to learn in a dynamic, collaborative research environment.

Additionally helpful but not mandatory is knowledge and interest in:

Experience with data workflow engines (e.g. snakemake, nextflow, luigi)

Due to regulations Non-EU/EFTA citizens must provide a certificate from the university stating that an internship is mandatory as part of the application documents. Furthermore, they need to be enrolled during the entire duration of the internship.

This internship is not suitable for a Bachelor or Master thesis.
