The Position

This position is located within the Nucleic Acid-based Medicines (NABM) department of pRED. The position holder will be part of the Viral Technology group which focuses on rAAV manufacturing and capsid engineering with the goal to improve the therapeutic potential of rAAV-based gene therapies.

The Opportunity

In this role, you will work closely with our multidisciplinary team under the supervision of a PhD student to further our understanding of rAAV production and improve the system. As part of this process, you will participate in shaping the study design, perform molecular biology experiments to investigate the biology behind rAAV manufacturing and apply the obtained knowledge through genetic engineering to enhance vector production. You will also have the opportunity to present and discuss your results with your supervisor and the wider gene therapy team at the Basel and Penzberg sites.
 

Responsibilities:

Maintaining and developing cell lines in a BSL2 environment

Investigating rAAV production using flow cytometry and molecular biology assays

Conducting knockdown/overexpression experiments and assessing the outcomes

Regularly presenting findings and discussing results

Thoroughly documenting experiments in our electronic laboratory documentation system

Who You are

You are enrolled or have completed your master's degree in biology, genetics, bioengineering or similar disciplines within the past 12 months prior to the start date. You thrive in a dynamic, inclusive environment which gives you full accountability for your own contributions and development. You have a keen interest in continuously building a personal network. Furthermore, you are resourceful and flexible in problem-solving and in working in a collaborative and inclusive manner.

You have experience with the following:

Mammalian cell culture (BSL2) and basic molecular biology techniques

rAAV production and cell line development are an advantage

Basic data analysis skills in R are a plus

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Excellent communication skills in English
