Job Description

The personal line underwriter provides underwriting support and direction to sales management and their marketing forces for the purpose of improving growth and profit opportunities for new and in-force personal lines of insurance within assigned territories.  The personal line Underwrite builds and maintains agency relationships for the common purpose of providing extraordinary customer relationships, while profitably growing a multi-line book of business. The Intermediate Underwriter performs in a technical capacity, participates in quality reviews, problem solving, and other discussions, with appropriate input for solution-oriented goals.

Key Responsibilities

File documentation is clear and within Best Practice adopted by organizationWorks with team to review policies, and proceduresAnswers difficult inquiries regarding interpretation of policy, procedures, rules and regulationsEffectively communicates additional information needs, analysis process within eligibility guidelines, and decisionsWork is within set parameters of quality and production standards, as applicable, and within agreed upon Service Level Agreements and regulationsAssesses accuracy of data, considers alternative options, and prepares recommendations on referral files outside of authorityReviews, underwrites, and prepares new business, endorsements, and renewals within guidelines for position

Qualification

Enrolled in CIP or actively pursuing designation.3-5 years of Underwriting experience is preferredExperience in the non-standard auto market as well as experience in a broker office would be an assetKnowledge of the regional insurance market and the broker within the market is considered an assetStrong negotiation skills, customer service skills and the ability and willingness to learnStrong attention to detailsAbility to collaborate with peers and subordinates to reach goals as well as the ability to work well independently
