Job Description

Our New York Metro Interiors team at AECOM is seeking an Interior Designer to be based in our New York City office.

The role of an Interior Designer at AECOM is diverse and encompasses combining creativity and technical knowledge with business skills and understanding to produce sustainably focused, aesthetically powerful, functional, high-performing FF& E and architectural solutions which align with and support clients' culture and values as well as business strategies and drivers. The Interior Designer will be an integral part of the project team and the studio, working under the general supervision of a Senior Designer and/or Manager and in collaboration with peer designers and technical professionals.

The Job Responsibilities for the Junior Interior Designer include, but are not limited to:

Responsible for initiating and developing design and construction document drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project’s discipline engineers.Under minimal supervision, develops complex interior design drawings.Exercises sound judgment in assessing problem situations or complex design issues and uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions.Applies understanding of the purpose and use of vendor documents, reviews them for accuracy and resolves discrepancies. Also reviews discipline supplier documents and other discipline’s supplier documents for accuracy.Utilizes understanding of the use of requisitions and the role of materials management and reviews/advises on purchase orders and subcontracts.Applies business development concepts and principles, financial terminology and measures, and provides support for proposals. Leads or assists with the development of manpower, man-hour, and labor costs requirements for design staff and monitors data to aid in evaluating the budget.Prepares designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards, and procedures.Applies full understanding of the discipline’s equipment and material lists and instructs others in their use and requirements.Provides technical guidance and assistance to Designers and Technicians. Reviews completed work with design and drafting personnel responsible for its completion to ensure accuracy and compliance with codes and design data.Advises the Interior Design Director/Leader about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays, and adverse problems.Assists with the planning and scheduling of design tasks associated with assigned project.Assists in interpreting industry codes, permits, and standards, and ensures design and drawing compliance.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in Interior Design or Architecture and 2 years of related interior design experience in corporate / workplace or commercial interiors projects

Preferred Qualifications:

4+ years of related interior design experience in corporate/workplace or higher education interior construction projects preferred Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and Adobe Creative Suites software (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop)Basic experience in space planning, building codes, and ADA requirementsWorking knowledge of contract interiors FF&E market including manufacturers and dealers, and basic experience documenting FF&E specificationsBasic knowledge of building codes, standards, and building structuresStrong communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills fostering a positive work environment Working knowledge of the application of color, materials, and aesthetic formFamiliarity with space planning methodologyFamiliarity with furnishings and equipmentBasic sketching and rendering skillsBasic interior architecture detailing skillsWorking knowledge of CDs and proceduresCommitment to support projects through peaks and valleysIntermediate MS Office Suite skillsBasic Adobe Creative Suite skillsIntermediate knowledge of cost estimating methodsIntermediate knowledge of discipline’s materials costs and cost analysis and forecasting methodsIntermediate knowledge of the project change control process, rationale and requirement, and identifies potential changes
