Summary About the Position: This position is in the Defense Health Agency Public Health, Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Responsibilities You will serve in the Toxicology (TOX) Directorate, Army Public Health Center (APHC), responsible for conducting multidisciplinary studies and providing expert biological or toxicological consultation services, responsible for the following: Determines the abiotic and biological fate, transport, and toxicological effects of chemical compounds. Isolates molecular structure and their notional compound influences. Defines the pharmacological, toxicological, and developmental effects of various toxicants. Performs Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships (QSARs), making toxicological, fate, and transport predictions. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. THIS IS AN INTERDISCIPLINARY POSITION AND MAY BE FILLED WITH ANY OF THE BELOW OCCUPATIONS. BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR BIOLOGIST (0401): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A. above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirement for the Toxicologist 0415 Series: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology. Specialized Experience GS-11: To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the federal service. Specialized experience. Assisting conducting toxicology or biological assessments; providing assistance on the management of programs in areas such as biological or toxicological studies; and ensure compliance with laws and regulations dealing with areas such as hazardous, toxic materials, and/or waste management. Specialized Experience Requirements: GS 12 To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal service. Specialized experience Evaluating/analyzing toxicological and/or biological data; conducting scientific studies in the areas of pharmacology, biology, and/or toxicology; and assisting in the development of in vitro and/or in vivo test designs. Specialized Experience Requirements: GS 13 To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal service. Specialized experience Evaluating/analyzing toxicological and/or biological data; conducting scientific studies in the areas of pharmacology, biology, and/or toxicology; and leading in the development of in vitro and/or in vivo test designs. This position will be filled as a GS-11, GS -12 or GS-13, at management's selection. If selected at the developmental GS-11 or GS-12 level, promotion to the next grade level will be at management's discretion following time-in grade requirements, training, performance, and experience. Full performance level is GS-13. If selected at less than the full performance level, promotion to the full performance is subject to meeting regulatory requirements such as time-in-grade, training, and performance and is at management's discretion. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
