Interactive Media Design Lecturer
New York University
NYU Tulsa is seeking a local, part-time instructor to teach “Introduction to Game Development” in Spring 2026 (January 21 – May 8, 2026). The course is sponsored by the NYU Tandon School of Engineering and is part of the Integrated Design & Media curriculum. The course is taught in English, with 15 in-person instructional weeks. Students will include a mix of undergraduate and interdisciplinary majors. The course schedule will be determined in consultation with the final candidate.
The instructor will be responsible for designing the course while following the NY version of the course, preparing and delivering all classes, grading student work, and holding at least one office hour per week. Candidates should have demonstrated experience teaching game design or interactive media. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity of intellectual life at NYU Tulsa.
Course Details
Introduction to Game Development This course introduces students to the principles of 2D and 3D computer game design. Students will explore a wide range of game types and analyze their conceptual building blocks. Through a staged sequence of assignments, students will develop a fully worked-out design for an original game. Evaluation will be based on factors such as storyline, visual style, gameplay, and conceptual originality. For games with educational or instructional objectives, clarity and effectiveness for the target audience will also be assessed. Students are expected to build toward a final project through preparatory assignments over the course of the semester.
We are seeking candidates with a mix of education/training and creative or professional practice as well as teaching/instructional experience. A terminal degree (PhD, JD, MFA, MPS, MBA) in Interactive Media Design, Game Design, Digital Media, Computer Science, or a related field, would be a plus for qualified candidates. Candidates who bring interdisciplinary and project-based approaches to teaching are encouraged to apply. Ideally, applicants will have two to three years of university-level teaching experience; experience working with undergraduates is especially valuable. In some cases, significant professional experience in the game design or interactive media industries may be considered in place of academic teaching experience.
Salary will be based on part-time faculty rates for the course and location. Other terms and conditions will be discussed with the successful applicant. Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the United States at the time of appointment.
All applications must be submitted via Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/169402. All candidates must submit the following:
