Affiliated with UT Tyler School of Medicine, we provide top-tier education, innovative research, and residency programs training future medical leaders. Responsibilities Establish and obtain authorizations in order to bill insurance claims to secure accurate payments on a timely basis; works independently utilizing system-generated reports. On a daily basis excels in communication with patients, insurance companies, UR department, and doctor’s offices successfully. Obtain benefits and authorizations in a timely manner. Research and resolve problems with insurance. Coordinates activities of team members; makes recommendations for hiring. Promotion, evaluates individual employee performance based on standards. Establishes individual goals and objectives jointly with other team members. Establishes individual annual performance goals jointly with the Admitting Manager. Claims ownership of admitting process through regular communication with other team members and attendance at periodic team meetings. Contributes to realization of overall department goals and standards by effective interaction with peers. Oversees the distribution of work load among a variety of support representative to ensure attainment of goals and standards. Conveys constructive comments regarding quality improvement to employees on an ongoing basis and in a private and professional manner. Healthcare System policies and procedures. Strong interpersonal communication, documentation skills and customer service skills required. Maintains courteous and cooperative working relationship with all levels of management and employees, nurses, patients/family and general public. Accurately registers all patients in a timely and professional manner by successfully locating the correct patient in AS400 so that the information feeding into sub systems is correct. Provides courteous and accurate information to patients, families and visitors and interdepartmental personnel and as allowed by regulatory agencies. When questions arise that are out of the scope of the position, the admitting representative makes sure that a clinical (or other appropriate) team member responds. Actively displays compassion, understanding and empathy to everyone he or she encounters in the course of the job. This position is often the first point of contact of UT Health East Texas patients and visitors and it plays a key role in creating a sense of warmth and caring. Collects copays, deductibles, down payments and cash discount payments as required. If patient is uninsured; the registration representative will follow UT HEALTH Collection Policy. Obtains appropriate signatures for the following legally required documents: Advance Directive, Medicate Rights, HIPPA, Patient Rights, Champus Rights, Designated Caregiver, and General Consent. All Patient Access Reps must wear the approved uniform shirt with the appropriate colored slacks or skirts and shoes. Additional duties may include, but are not limited to: Cashier, Obtaining room assignments, Pre-Admitting, Verification of insurance benefits and Keeping work area and or lobby of work area neat and clean. Provides daily productivity to Admitting Management Team and Cashier. Demonstrates professional growth through periodic participation in continuing education/development programs. Performs other duties and projects, as assigned. Qualifications Job Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent required 2 years of medical and insurance billing in a hospital setting and or physician office. Preferably in a multi-physician setting. Preferred Job Requirements: Hospital clerical or physician office experience preferred
