Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to join our Combustion Management & Industry Applications department for a 12 to 13-month contract to cover maternity leave. This role requires an experienced professional who can manage medium-sized projects and produce essential engineering deliverables from scratch. The position offers a dynamic work environment and the potential to transition into a permanent role based on performance.
ResponsibilitiesProduce instrument datasheets, control narratives, shutdown keys, state transition diagrams, and cause & effect diagrams independently.Read and develop P&IDs and related documentation.Select and size control valves and pressure regulators, as well as specify pressure, temperature, and flow elements/transmitters.Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) in both virtual and onsite formats.Manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously, with up to 2–3 projects per week and 4–5 per month.Collaborate with automation specialists, electrical and mechanical engineers, and project coordinators.Attend in-person interviews and work onsite five days a week at the Solution Center near the airport.Essential SkillsP.Eng designation with the ability to stamp documents.7–12 years of experience in instrumentation and controls.5–7 years of experience in controls and automation.2–3 years of experience in instrumentation.Experience with medium-sized projects ($200K to $2M).Strong work ethic and ability to own deliverables.Eligibility to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.Additional Skills & QualificationsKnowledge of combustion code.Experience with burner management systems and combustion control systems.Configuration/programming experience in DCS or PLCs.Experience in control panel design and wiring schematics.Background in OEM or similar companies.Exposure to client-facing activities and documentation reviews.Familiarity with EPC-style autonomy and accountability.Work Environment
The role is based at the Solution Center near the airport. While regular staff work three days in-office, contractors and new team members are expected to work onsite five days a week. The environment is fast-paced, managing 2–3 projects per week and up to 4–5 projects per month. Collaboration with various engineering teams is essential. The interview process involves two rounds with in-person meetings and a shop tour. There is a potential for contract extension and a permanent role based on performance.

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $100.00/hr.
