Posting Number ACAD503 Job Title Instructor Department of Surgery Position Title Instructor Department of Surgery Position Type Faculty Number of vacancies 1 Salary Commensurate with experience Department Surgery Position Summary In support of Morehouse School of Medicine’s vision: “Leading the creation and advancement of health equity,” the Department of Surgery is seeking professionals to join its team.
This position reports to the Director of Surgical Education and the Assistant Dean, UME clinical education, providing integrated instruction in point of care ultrasound (simulated) in MSM year 3 UME clerkships, instruction in the year 4 UME US clinical elective, various high-level project management and strategic support of simulation-specific education, training, research, and other directives as outlined internally and externally by the Residency Program Director, Clerkship Director, and the Director of Surgical Education. The position will include facilitating innovative surgical training using simulation, developing educational programs, executing and managing research, supporting committee activities, and managing joint projects.
Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. Minimum of 4+ years of direct experience in medical/surgical simulation training as an educator or as a simulation technician in a clinical setting Skills and appropriate credentials in clinical ultrasound imaging Facility in the use of simulation-based US education Fundamental understanding and basic experience in simulation-based methods and surgical skill techniques. Experience with medical technology Methodologies to teach surgical simulation and skills. Strong experience in facilitating in a clinical setting. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) necessary to interact effectively with all levels of the organization. Strong experience with various computer software, including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Office, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Sign, cloud services, and Google Docs. Experience working in a team and supervising others. Job Duties Description of Job Duty Instructs all MSM year 3 UME students in the simulated use of point of care US (sessions in Medicine, OB, Surgery, and OB-Gyn using Sono-sim (or similar simulation) Serves as course director for the MSM year 4 elective in the US Responsible for all aspects of the surgical simulation center, including equipment, supplies, software, and documentation. Operates, tests, and calibrates equipment. Provide training to residents, medical students, faculty, and affiliates. Serves as a resource to medical students, residents, faculty, and staff. Responsible for the purchasing and inventory of consumables and accessories. Ensure adherence to the requirements of the surgical simulation center. Keeps abreast of the latest technology and development in the area of expertise. Manage assets and procurement of simulation equipment and accessories Maintain a calibration program for the simulators and ensure adherence to service contracts. Strong problem-solving, training, team-building, and mentoring abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
