An associate’s degree is preferred. + Industry certifications such as HVAC Excellence, NCCER, PHARA, or equivalent, or the ability to obtain within one year of hire. + Demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC-R systems, including electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration components. + Prior teaching/training experience in HVAC coursework at the technical or community college level is highly desirable. Experience in curriculum development and laboratory management is a plus. + Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple program responsibilities, including curriculum, accreditation, scheduling, and industry partnerships. + A proven track record of delivering high-quality online instruction is highly advantageous. + Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to student success and collaborative work with colleagues across all departments and Divisions. + Ability to work flexible hours and autonomously. + Proficiency with educational technology, including online learning platforms, is essential. + Ability to be an active part of instructional and non-instructional activities. + Valid Driver’s license. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: + Must have use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, and handle or feel objects and controls. + Must have physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office equipment such as, but not limited to, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. + Capable of lifting and carrying equipment and materials up to 75 pounds. + Dexterity to handle laboratory tools and equipment safely and effectively. + Ability to stand for extended periods and perform hands-on demonstrations. + Occasional travel is required in an automobile for up to 5 hours at a time, with some overnight stays. Job Specification The HVAC Instructor/Program Director at Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) will deliver high-quality instruction in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) across both credit and non-credit/workforce training formats. This role includes oversight of the HVAC program’s curriculum, scheduling, accreditation, and industry engagement, as well as the recruitment of part-time professional instructors. In addition to on-campus instruction, the Program Director may conduct off-site training at industry locations, correctional facilities, or other approved sites. The position requires strong leadership, a commitment to student success, and the ability to adapt instruction and program management to meet evolving workforce needs. Job Duties and Other Information Instructional Responsibilities + Prepare and deliver engaging, industry-relevant lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on training in HVAC-R for both credit and non-credit/workforce students. + Provide academic advising, tutoring, and mentorship to students. + Continually update course content to reflect current industry standards, certifications, and best practices. + Develop and support student organizations, professional development opportunities, and leadership programs within the HVAC field. + Deliver training both on-campus and at off-site locations, which may include industry partner facilities or correctional institutions. + Collaborate with workforce and academic departments to integrate industry-based credentials into coursework. + Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in the field of HVAC and effective teaching methodologies. + Participate in Division and College committees and meetings and contribute to community outreach and recruitment efforts. + Meet expectations as a faculty member as described in the full-time faculty agreement. + Use the College’s Learning Management System (Canvas) to accurately track student progress, grades, and attendance. + Other duties as assigned by the Dean. Program Director Responsibilities + Lead curriculum development, review, and revision to align with industry needs, certification requirements, and accreditation standards. + Coordinate program scheduling to meet enrollment demand, including evening, weekend, and accelerated workforce training formats. + Recruit and onboard qualified part-time professional instructors to deliver HVAC instruction for credit and non-credit classes. + Organize and chair HVAC program advisory board meetings to gather employer feedback and strengthen industry relationships. + Oversee and maintain program accreditation through agencies such as HVAC Excellence, NCCER, or PHARA, ensuring compliance with all reporting and quality standards. + Manage program inventory, order supplies and equipment, and ensure proper lab functionality and safety. + Develop, coordinate, and oversee student internships and work-based learning opportunities, including employer outreach and placement. + Prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to support program growth, equipment purchases, and student success initiatives. + Process student graduation applications and ensure all requirements are met for credentialing and completion. + Serve as the primary point of contact for industry partners, accreditation bodies, and internal stakeholders related to the HVAC program. + Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
