Instructional Designer (PSS2), Rowan Online
As part of the Online Learning Division within Rowan Online at Rowan University, a public institution and leader in online education in the state of NJ, the Instructional Designer plays a key role in development, revision, and continuous improvement of high-quality online programs. This position collaborates closely with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams to design learner-centered, inclusive, and pedagogically sound digital learning experiences that reflect best practices in instructional design and align with institutional standards. The role requires demonstrated proficiency in course design, digital curricular development, instructional technologies, project management, and faculty consultation. This position is ideal for a professional with 3–5 years of experience in instructional design or a related field who is ready to take greater ownership of projects and provide expert-level guidance to faculty. Principal duties and responsibilities + Apply instructional design models and practices to create learner-centered, outcomes-based online courses. + Design authentic and aligned assessments, activities, and content that promote engagement and deep learning. + Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop digital learning experiences that reflect disciplinary practices. + Uses standardized instructional design tools and frameworks to maintain consistency and rigor across courses and programs. + Serve as design consultant to instructors, providing one-on-one support. + Translate complex instructional concepts into actionable recommendations for instructors with varied levels of teaching experience. + Model inclusive, student-centered teaching practices in all interactions with faculty. + Recommend and support the integration of educational technologies that align with course objectives and enhance interactivity. + Provide guidance on the effective use of digital learning technologies within the LMS and integrated platforms (e.g., Kaltura). + Ensure that technologies and content are implemented in a way that supports accessibility and student success. + Contribute to continuous improvement by analyzing feedback and course data. + Provide high quality and professional customer service to instructors and students for the use of various synchronous and asynchronous instructional delivery technologies. + Use project management tools and practices to support a scalable, transparent workflow. + Maintain project documentation and assist with other various projects and initiatives within the University as assigned. Minimum Qualifications + Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, or a related field. + 3+ years of experience designing or supporting online programs and courses in higher education. + Proficiency with a major LMS (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard), instructional design models, and digital learning tools. + Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and organizational skills. + Experience working independently to solve problems with minimal supervision. Preferred Qualifications + Professional training or certification in digital curricular design, instructional design, or artificial intelligence. + Experience with online education regulations, course quality frameworks, accessibility requirements, or universal design for learning (UDL). + Experience teaching higher education courses online. + Experience with media development, analytics assessment, adaptive learning tools, or competency-based education. Salary: In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 24 ($73,899.91 to $84,980.25), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors. For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4A:3-4.9 & 4.10).
