Summary About the Position: Serve as an Inspector General (IG) on the preliminary investigation team. Responsibilities Develop and implement investigative plans for gathering and analyzing information and evidence. Draft complex reports of investigation regarding violations of law, regulations, and other serious problems, abuses or deficiencies. Examine evidence in order to validate investigative findings and/or recommendations. Identify key evidence from various sources such as: summarized and transcribed testimonies and prepare summaries of investigative actions per established organization policy. Distinguish relevant from irrelevant facts and pursue each matter with objectivity in order to draw a conclusion. Analyze various reports, records, or other investigative documents from multiple sources to determine the violation of a standard, rule, policy, regulation, or law. Request official information such as: documents, Senior Official email and / or telephone records, Command Climate Assessments, SOPs, and other information, to assist with the investigation. Research relevant regulations, policies, and/or other documents to determine Senior Official impropriety. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Decision Making Information Analysis Information Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. A minimum of an interim secret level security clearance is required before an individual can perform any IG functions or have access to IG records. IG positions are designated as noncritical sensitive. A SSN and current resume is required to conduct the background investigation; applicants must supply their SSN when asked by the hiring authority. Applicants and employees must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a minimum of a secret-level security clearance. A minimum of an interim secret security clearance is required before an individual can perform any IG functions or have access to IG records. IG positions are designated as noncritical sensitive. Any serious criminal activity, to include drug use, will result in the immediate removal of an employee from IG duty and loss of access to IGARS and IGNET Eligible for Situational Telework Only.
