Primary Role
The Inspector may be assigned to perform any responsibility that lies within the capability of the employee based on experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training.
Knowledge/Skills Must possess geographical knowledge of the company's service area and distribution system, as well as an understanding of gradients, piping networks, basic fluid and flow principles, and basic electrical theory and related safety procedures. Working knowledge and understanding of contracts covering the installation of water mains, valves, fittings, fire hydrants, and services to ensure that facilities are installed in accord with contract. Working knowledge of company policies, procedures, and safety practices, as well as federal regulations regarding confined spaces, trenching and shoring, and Competent Person. Knowledge of various materials utilized in the transmission and distribution system and an ability to properly and safely make necessary taps, restraints, and repairs to ensure the integrity of the transmission and distribution system. The individual must be capable of interpreting diagrams, blueprints, schematics and maps and possess a Working knowledge of cross-connection control and reduced pressure zone backflow preventors. The individual must be detail-oriented and capable of preparing and maintaining accurate records and documents. The individual must be capable of operating Company equipment and vehicles necessary for the completion of assigned responsibilities and must possess a valid Driver’s License, and a Commercial Drivers’ License with appropriate endorsements. The individual must be able to perform the essential functions and meet the physical requirements of Inspector.
Experience/Education Minimum of five years of experience as a Utility Mechanic II. Will be required to pass an entrance examination developed by the company prior to the award of the position. Also required to pass a final examination developed by the company prior to the completion of the evaluation period. The individual will also be encouraged to attain and maintain a W-2 License in accord with the educational and operational criteria established by the State of New Jersey.
