Starting Wage DOE: $63.47 - 79.34
The Supervisor Pharmacy- Operations is a member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team primarily responsible for the daily operations and staff management of the acute care pharmacy. This leader, role model, and resource for the team assures that the acute care pharmacy meets the needs of the patients and their care team through procurement, storage, preparation, and distribution of drug without sacrificing safety or compliance. This individual ensures that pharmacy programs and services rendered by the team meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and high reliability to achieve optimal clinical outcomes. To assure reliability and continuity of operations, this individual will maintain and update objectives, policies, and procedures that implement the mission, vision, and values of Billings Clinic and the Department. Serves as a liaison for provider and interdepartmental/intradepartmental relationships and coordinates cross-functional clinical initiatives. Participates and/or leads appropriate regulatory, clinical, and quality committee initiatives. Oversees medication needs, including procurement, approval of medication needs and promotion of the decisions of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee throughout the hospital, infusion center, surgery center and local clinics.
Essential Job Functions
Works with manager to develop, expand and oversee pharmacy services locally and within the region to ensure adherence to organizational and departmental mission, vision, values, strategic goals, and business strategies. Responsible for promotion of, and adherence to corporate compliance program.
•Serves as leader for pharmacy technicians. Manages the staffing, recruitment, discipline, training and development of direct reports to support pharmacy operations and employee growth in collaboration with Manager.
•Competent in workflow and processes within the inpatient pharmacy.
•Forecasts staffing and medication needs within the pharmacy with respect to fluctuations in patient workload and productivity standards.
•Oversees medication procurement for the hospital and clinics. Manages medication shortages and navigates facility needs in regard to medication procurement.
•Facilitates the work to evaluate clinical substitutions, updates to operations processes to accommodate needs and/or the changing in purchasing needs, as appropriate.
Coordinates with providers and other Billings Clinic leadership to assure continuity in pursing pharmacy and organizational goals and synergy in implementing plans and problem resolution. Coordinates and develops collaborative relationships with Billings Clinic departments.
•Develops and implements orientation and collaborates on educational programs on medication use for technicians.
•Leads departmental and interdisciplinary team meetings to promote coordination of services as appropriate. Participate, and lead as appropriate, in regulatory, clinical, and quality committees as needed by department.
•As appropriate serves as senior staff member and provides guidance for clinical and operational aspects within in the inpatient pharmacy setting.
Gathers, analyzes, and trends clinical, operational and statistical data to evaluate and improve the quality of care, safe and reliable care, adverse outcomes, pharmacoeconomic efficiencies and service improvements.
•Evaluates financial opportunities for pharmacy services.
•Reviews patient outcome trends for pharmacy development and service expansion opportunities
•Quantifies pharmacy services impact in outcomes measures
Practices process improvement principles to assess and improve the quality of the service/care provided within the department. Identifies issues/concerns relating to personnel, workflow, safety, medication errors, etc. and works collaboratively with other members of Inpatient Pharmacy Leadership to resolve. Formulates recommendations for appropriate cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to patients as appropriate.
•Collaborates in the development, implementation and maintenance of treatment guidelines, collaborative practice agreements, protocols, standing orders, policies and procedures, and workflows to optimize patient outcomes as appropriate.
•Facilitates the evaluation and implementation of technology-based improvements within the pharmacy space to ensure efficiency and patient safety.
•Develops, oversees and manages sterile compounding processes and hazardous drug program to ensure compliance with regulatory standards (CMS, USP 795, 797 and 800).
Maintains knowledge of current trends and development within healthcare and pharmaceutical therapies and pharmacy services. Reads and evaluates medical, pharmaceutical, and other literature to determine its scientific merit and applicability to the organization and pharmacy. Utilizes appropriate information resources to respond to various inquiries and information requests and resolve problems.
Leads, recruits, develops, mentors, and retains a talented team committed to accomplishing the goals and objectives of Billings Clinic. Adheres to administrative policies and procedures relating to human resource management. Assists management with personnel, may include but not limited to:
•Maintains all required employee information in departmental files
•Conducts periodic and annual employee performance evaluations
•Processes employee payroll and completes staffing schedule
•Conducts coaching/counseling, disciplinary and improvement plans with employees
Valuable member of Pharmacy Leadership team to help guide pharmacy staff, and other Leaders throughout the organization to ensure a positive learning environment.
Demonstrates and encourages an ethic of open communication and teamwork throughout the organization. Builds an environment of shared commitment to Billings Clinic’s goals and responsibility to achieve quality outcomes.
Knowledgeable and competent in certain pharmacy duties to assist in pharmacy service staffing and incorporation of suggestions from the front-line staff for continuous improvement.
Works effectively with team(s) to meet regulatory and/or accreditation standards for pharmacy service area. Implements corrective action plans as needed.
In the absence of the Manager, may be required to assume the essential duties and responsibilities of the Manager.
Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
•4 Year / Bachelors Degree Pharmacy
Experience
•3 years Successful and applicable clinical pharmacy experience
OR
Successful completion of an accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program
•Preferred Experience: Previous supervisory/management experience demonstrating commitment to excellence and collaborative work with others. Master’s Degree in related field (e.g. MHA, MBA, MPH). Completion of leadership or management educational programs (e.g. ASHP Leadership program). History of active participation and leadership in pharmacy initiatives and/or pharmacy professional organizations.
•Greater than 5 (five) years of relevant of successful pharmacy work experience, preferred.
Successful work experience as a pharmacy lead, supervisor or equivalent leadership role, preferred.
Successful leadership experience and/or experience leading teams in facility-wide projects, preferred.
Certifications and Licenses
•Licensed Pharmacist At hire
•Licensed Preceptor Preferred
•MT Dirver License or the ability to obtain one At hire
•Ability to be insured to operate organization vehicles.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
