Your role at Clorox:
Clorox R&D Innovation Services has an opening for a professional to join the Packaging Support Team which evaluates the performance and integrity of packaged products. The Clorox Innovations Services Group supports R&D innovation experiments, process trials and laboratory testing across the Clorox family of brands including Clorox Cleaning, Clorox Professional, Hidden Valley, Kingsford, Brita, Burt’s Bees and Fresh Step. This position is responsible for supporting the business units to ensure on-time product launch success.The Packaging Specialist role focuses on hands-on product testing to simulate various transit methods including vibration, drop impact, and compression plus product dimensional inspections using CMMs and interpretation of technical drawings. The role also supports test method development, equipment installation, packaging prototyping and ensures safety compliance through continuous improvement and collaboration with technical teams. Accurate documentation and timely communication with project teams are essential responsibilities.
In this role, you will:
Support Packaging Testing
Complete physical product testing on primary, secondary and full pallet packaging to ISTA industry standards including vibration, drop impact, pallet stack load and simulation testing for over-the-road transit, club distribution, ecom, and air travel.Perform laboratory testing with guidance from subject matter experts to support packaging material qualifications including chemical stability over extended periods, Instron tensile/compression, abrasion and coefficient of friction.Perform bottle qualifications including leak, cap torque, weight and volume measurements. Maintain accurate records of test data and communicate summary results to the project team in a timely manner.Aid senior packaging team members with the installation of new equipment and the development of new test methods.Handle Packaging Inspection and Dimensional Qualification
Operate CMMs for product dimensional inspections.Utilize additional digital, optical, mechanical and hand-held metrology instruments such as calipers, micrometers and optical comparators. Read and interpret drawings and specifications for moderately complex products.Work on New Packaging Development and Evaluation
Run packaging prototype jobs on a digital corrugate cutting table.Fill and evaluate new aerosol products with the support of senior team members.Support additional packaging development and brand maintenance projects across the full Clorox brand portfolio as needed.Support Safety / SOP’s
Look for continuous improvements in and outside core work areas. When safety upgrades are found, work with the Safety Team to have these upgrades put into practice.When appropriate assist with the write-up of new SOPs to help guide requestors and other operators to run testing equipment safely and efficiently.Be part of the Hazop review team in their work area.What we look for:
Experience in product, packaging and material evaluations using analytical lab equipment and high precision measurement instruments.Basic technical knowledge of plastics and packaging materials.Hand-tool, assembly, maintenance, fabrication, CAD and/or 3D print knowledge beneficial.Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, etc.). Experience with product management software (PLM/PDM) a plus.Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups and collaborate with internal team members and external vendors.Excellent verbal and written communication.Ability to lift 50lbs in a safe ergonomically correct manner and ascend/descend stairs.Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or another related field.Workplace type:
