**What you’ll do:**
**PRIMARY FUNCTION:**
The Packaging Engineer will support Eaton CPA Juarez site packaging strategy and implementation of project launches, implement cost savings and manage quality and safety related projects. This position function as the onsite packaging engineer for CPA with initial focus on calculation cost for current packages, determination and testing for new packaging proposals, identify and develop returnable packaging proposals for internal and external customers and projects related to cost savings.
This position leads, facilitates and drives Continuous Improvement initiatives to improve process capability, reduce waste and eliminate defects.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**
• Oversee and manage complete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing according to the regulations and corporate guidelines for branding and packaging designs.
• Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
• Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.
• Establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation. Evaluate and select packaging suppliers/vendors; periodically conduct vendor reviews.
• Work closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing.
• Participate in product introduction teams, to deliver new products to market.
• Identify and implement cost savings related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.
• Work closely with our VSM/Design Engineers and corporate packing groups to optimize packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
• Specify and recommend efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs.
• Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure that packaging exceeds customer specifications.
• Manage returnable packaging at plant locations with cross functional team.
• Develop and implement packaging materials, containers or returnable trays that can be used for intra-company shipments and warehouse storage.
**Qualifications:**
**SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:**
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
• Experience related to Packaging Processes and technology solutions.
• Experience in Lean Manufacturing systems and in process improvements.
• Strong analytical skills and understanding of problem-solving tools/methods and goal setting process required.
• Strong Process and packing materials Validation Experience
• Previous Operational Business Systems experience (preferred).
• Strong communication skills (both English and Spanish) along with an innovative and collaborative mindset required.
• Computer skills and the use of Microsoft Office tools and internet applications are a necessity.
• Proficient with software’s like Solid works, Autocad, Corel Draw as an example.
