GENERAL FUNCTION The Information Security organization is responsible for safeguarding the bank’s digital assets, customer data, and critical infrastructure against evolving cyber threats. These teams work collaboratively to embed security into all business processes and technologies and stand at the ready to protect the bank against emerging threats. By defining and maintaining a strong security posture, the Information Security organization plays a critical role in advancing Fifth Third’s mission to be the One Bank people most value and trust. The Information Security Co-Op will directly support this mission by contributing to the placement team’s active security projects and initiatives. Actual deliverables and responsibilities will vary by team and are more clearly defined below. Join Fifth Third Bank’s Application Security team, a key part of our Enterprise Vulnerability Management (EVM) Program. Our program supports Information Security’s mission to revolutionize bank security and build trust in a digital world—and we’re looking for curious, driven individuals to help us do just that. In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced security engineers to identify and prioritize application vulnerabilities, build strong partnerships with development teams, and contribute to improving the Bank’s overall risk posture. Why Join Us? + Hands-on experience with real tools, real code, and real impact + Mentorship and learning from industry professionals who love what they do + Opportunities to innovate and contribute to meaningful projects + Collaborative culture that values your ideas and growth + A mission that matters – help build trust in a digital world ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES + Support new and ongoing security projects + Perform assignments and projects as determined by leadership + Adapt to feedback and work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment + Build a network of contacts across teams and lines of business + Consistently adhere to bank policy and security best practices + Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing + Demonstrate initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to learn + Manage time effectively and meet deadlines + Perform other duties as assigned You may be involved in a variety of impactful projects, such as: + Penetration Testing – Paired with mentors and independently, ethically hack our business applications and uncover vulnerabilities + Vulnerability Disclosure and Bug Bounty programs – Help manage submissions from external researchers and learn how we respond to real threats + Code Analysis – Investigate false positive vulnerabilities flagged by industry tools and sharpen your detective skills + Development Team Collaboration – Work directly with developers to understand and remediate vulnerabilities SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
