The role you’ll contribute:

This position contributes to the mission of AdventHealth and the goals of the department by; identifying risks for the acquisition and transmission of infectious agents on an ongoing basis and based on risks, establishes priorities and sets goals for preventing the development of health care-associated infections (HAI's) within the hospital. Implements programs designed to lower the risk and improve rates/trends of epidemiologically significant infections for patients, hospital employees and medical staff. Participates in the review and/or development of policies and procedures as indicated and/or requested. Accurately interprets regulatory standards related to infection control or employee health, for all levels of hospital personnel and medical staff as requested or directed. Coordinates the reporting of communicable diseases to health departments and assesses the significance for healthcare workers. Actively participates in surveying the hospital and its population for HAI's, hazards, or situations contributing to infections for the purpose of providing quality patient care and a safe working environment. Serves as a resource for orientation, patient care practices and staff education. Monitors aseptic and sterilization practices for patient care practices, supplies, equipment, linen, and trash. Provides leadership on hospital compliance, patient safety, and employee and medical staff safety issues. Serves as the chair of the Infection Prevention Committee (IPC). Insures 24-hour call availability for Infection Prevention Issues.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

Oversite of IC Program o Based on scientific practice: Maintains policies/procedures/protocols based on current scientific practices/guidelines. Re-evaluate on a scheduled and “as needed” basis. Collaborate with all levels of hospital personnel for implementation, as needed. o Comply with regulatory standards: Accurately interpret and implement regulatory standards for infection control practices (i.e. DNV-GL, CMS CDC, AHCA and OSHA) to all levels of hospital personnel and medical staff. o House wide Plan: Incorporate IC Program as a major component of hospital safety and performance improvement programs and/or other department-specific infection control plans. Evaluate and redesign program at least annually based on identified need and effectiveness. o Committee Responsibilities: Functions as the primary agent of the Infection Prevention Committee and is accountable for the data presented at the committee, and actively participates in other committees as required. o Community-wide effort: Coordinate/provide reporting of communicable, contagious, epidemiologically significant diseases/organisms to the appropriate community health authority (i.e. local or state Health Departments, CDC). Implements plans to respond to infections that may potentially overwhelm resources (Bioterrorism/Surge capacity). o Program Leadership: Maintains professional growth and competencies to serve as a resource person/educator for orientation, patient care practices, protocols/procedures, and staff education.

Conducts activities to prevent and control infection in patients, hospital personnel, and medical staff. o Provides consultation regarding the purchase of all equipment and supplies used for linen, trash, sterilization, disinfection and decontamination practices. o Periodically reviews cleaning procedures, agents and schedules in use throughout hospital and provides consultation regarding opportunities for performance improvement. o Identify risks for acquisition and transmission of infectious agents thru active surveillance of infections occurring in the facility. (Example: Lab-based, focused, prevalence or incidence studies). o Manages surveillance data by tracking, trending, and reporting as deemed necessary. o Investigates single cases of epidemiological significant infections as well as clusters of infections above expected level and provide interventions based on scientific practice. o Conducts surveillance of hospital practices that would decrease or prevent hospital-acquired infections (HAI’s). (Example: Isolation Protocols, handwashing compliance) o Conduct at least one focused activity per year to reduce or prevent hospital-acquired infections (HAI’s). (Example: Handwashing compliance, UTI prevention, VAP prevention) o Provide statistical surveillance data in a timely fashion. o Actively participate in hospital safety rounds. Completes other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· Ability to demonstrate leadership abilities, appropriate decision-making and positive interpersonal communication skills needed.

· Proficient written communication skills.

· Proficient in computer skills for data entry and generation of reports for defined hospital acquired infections.

· Working knowledge of general hospital operations, OSHA, DNV-GL and other state and federal regulatory requirements.

· Infection Control Certification (CIC)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

· Master's of Nursing

· 3 experience in hospital infection prevention, acute/critical care and/or other Infection Prevention/Epidemiology field

· 3 experience in a leadership position at an acute care facility
