The Opportunity
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Infection Preventionist Consultant to support a dynamic public health surveillance program focused on healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). The ideal candidate will play a critical role in reviewing and enhancing infection prevention protocols, and providing expert guidance on HAI definitions. The Infection Preventionist (IP) supports the National Healthcare Safety Network Program with a focus on monitoring and reporting adverse events and process measures for the purpose of evaluating and directing prevention eff orts for patient safety.
Responsibilities
Data Review & Technical Support
• Review and troubleshoot submitted data files (including CSV uploads) from participating facilities
• Provide technical guidance and practical solutions for data submission issues
• Assists/leads the development of new NHSN modules, providing subject matt er expertise related to HAI surveillance.
Infection Prevention & Protocols
• Apply and interpret NHSN’s HAI definitions and surveillance criteria when responding to fi eld inquiries
• Assist in developing, reviewing, and maintaining infection prevention protocols and guidance documents
• Reviews current published literature on HAI IP/nursing-related issues and
notifies appropriate staff when new significant developments or issues appear. Prepares articles/abstracts or critiques on articles on HAI prevention/control and surveillance in medical, nursing and infection prevention and control journals, public health journals, MMWR, newsletters of national IP/nursing
organizations, and other publications
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and protocol refinements
Training & Education
• Develop and deliver virtual and/or in-person training for external partners
• Collaborate with health educators to create educational resources, training materials, and job aids to support surveillance practices and infection control protocols
• Ensures consistency of training documents with CDC, Association for Practitioners in Infection Control (APIC), and other related organizations/governmental bodies.
Stakeholder Engagement & Field Support
• Respond to inquiries from external partners regarding HAI definitions,
surveillance practices, and data collection requirements
• Provide subject matt er expertise and mentorship to support facility compliance and understanding
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field (Master’s preferred)
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in infection prevention or healthcare epidemiology
• Strong understanding of national HAI reporting systems and/or CDC/NHSN protocols
• Familiarity with CSV file formatting and troubleshooting issues with data uploads
• Experience with surveillance data interpretation and data quality improvement
• Proven ability to develop and conduct professional training sessions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desired
• CDC or other public health experience
• CIC (Certification in Infection Control) preferred

The proposed salary range for this position is:
