Industrial Hygienist/Safety Specialist

Job Summary: 

As an Industrial Hygienist/Safety Specialist, you will work with ATI7 personnel to modify procedures when needed to control exposures. In the event of a spill or other emergency, provide recommendations on mitigation actions and procedures to reduce personnel exposures. This candidate will also author and review technical reports on occupational health topics.

 

Responsibilities:

Provide expert industrial hygiene support to DIA/ST/REPD operations, both in a production facility and on vessels. Evaluate operational processes to assess potential exposures to occupational hazards and recommend control measures in consideration of mission requirements. Evaluate processes to assess and minimize personnel exposures to occupational hazard in a production facility and aboard vessels.Recommend engineering controls, administrative controls and personal protective equipment (PPE) for production and vessel operations. Conduct theoretical and measurements-based exposure assessments of occupational exposures to document and to assess the efficacy of control measures. Assess compliance with Occupational Health Program requirements. Ensure occupational exposures are captured in the DOD's longitudinal health record system (Defense Occupational & Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS). Review industry standard operating procedures (SOP) to identify potential occupational exposures and to recommend control measures.Work with REPD personnel to modify procedures when needed to control exposures.Develop and implement sampling plans to assess occupational exposures of personnel.Manage EESOH-MIS for Jupiter Station operations.Research sampling methods when appropriate. · Recommend hazard controls including engineering, administrative and PPE. Recommend appropriate PPE for chemicals used.Evaluate facility and vessel ventilation systems recommending operating criteria and corrective measures when needed.Draft and deliver training on occupational health topics. Perform theoretical calculations to anticipate occupational exposures and to identify when controls or additional assessments may be required.Conduct research on unusual or complex occupational exposures issues to better define potential hazards to laboratory personnel.Anticipate potential emergencies and develop spill plans and other emergency response procedures. Identify any equipment needed to implement plans.Identify hazardous waste streams, recommend sampling when needed, and recommend proper disposal procedures.Author and review technical reports on occupational health topics.Perform other tasks as requested/needed.


Requirements:

Must be a US citizen.Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene or other closely related subjects or alternatively in any science or engineering field. In addition, five or more years of professional experience performing industrial hygiene in a laboratory environment.In lieu of degree, ten (10) or more years of relevant experience.Must have an active secret clearance.Experience applying industrial hygiene principles in a production area andaboard vessels.Experience evaluating hazards and recommending control for processes involving chemicals used in a production facility and aboard vessels.Experience in identifying, storing and separating chemical and hazardous materials.Knowledge of hazardous waste disposal requirements. Works well independently or as part of a groupAbility to research technical issues.Ability to identify problems, communicate them, and propose solutionsAbility to manage time & resources.Ability to write reports to present to management.Good interpersonal skills.Effective communicator.Successful background and drug screening check.


Preferred Requirements:

Experience working as an industrial safety specialist on a military base.Working with EESOH-MIS process at PSFB or CCSFS.Experience working on and around maritime vessels.

The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 

This position will require you to climb stairs and work within confined spaces.Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
