Position Overview:
As an Industrial Engineer in our Rail Vehicle Assembly Production line, the focus will be on optimizing complex systems by integrating people, machines, and materials to improve efficiency and productivity. Key aspects of this role include analyzing data, designing efficient systems, improving processes, and collaborating with other teams.
Day to day will be to ensure that production operations are ready to go at the scheduled start of production date by deploying lean methodologies and practical process knowledge. You will work from detailed engineering 3D models to develop a plan on how to assemble vehicles most efficiently. Including development of jigs, fixtures, and new equipment. You will perform continuous improvement activities to resolve production line issues and improve throughput.
What you will be doing:
Review engineering drawings, 3D engineering models using AutoCAD, Pro-E or PTC Creo to gain an understanding of manufacturing process requirements such as job sequence, workflow, and takt time.Prepare standardized work instructions including sequences and floor layouts.Set up stations with proper tooling, fixtures, templates, and equipment.Design jigs and fixtures using engineering requirements, engineering drawings, or with products already existing on the production floor. Development of detailed specifications for jigs and fixtures for manufacturing processes using takt time, capacity calculations, engineering product design, and sourcing jigs and fixtures from vendors.Respond to and resolve production issues including reviewing dimensional accuracy of parts and making adjustments or modification to processes in an already running production line.Create department procedures to improve business and engineering transactions.Conducts time and motions studies and derives time standards for production calculations. Perform bottleneck analysis and line balancing activities using the time study data. Liaises with other engineering functions or external vendors or service providers and constantly monitors and approves respective services and work deliveries.Able to work during normal business hours, 1st shift, or 2nd shift.What you will need to thrive in this role:
The Entry level Industrial Engineer position, related internships is a positive.Degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering.Work experience in the rail business or related production is preferred but not required.Detailed understanding of takt time and cycle time. How to find and diagnose bottlenecks in processes and how to make changes to remove bottlenecks.Project management skills, including developing project plans, timelines / schedules, budgets, proposed layouts, resource requirements, calculating ROI, etc.Practical knowledge of the lean toolbox and ability to utilize lean principles to reduce waste.A history of “hands-on” approach to problem solving and countermeasure implementation within own areas of responsibility.Solid understanding of tooling and fixtures for manufacturing and its impact to dimensional accuracy and quality.A history of driving projects in adverse conditions.Required travel:5%We would be impressed if you had:
MS or advanced degree (or foreign equivalent) in Industrial, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on assembly processes, production setup, manufacturing, and/or logistics.Six Sigma Six Sigma Green belt, Master Black Belt / Six Sigma Black Belt / Lean Expert Certification.Practical experience using complex factory planning methods such as defining high level manufacturing plans, identifying / analyzing new technologies required, creating a value stream analysis, performing total space needs analysis, performing total capacity needs analysis, and implementation planning.Comfortable with transferring technical knowledge, manufacturing knowledge, and proprietary technologies from lead factories to market factories.Knowledge of MRP / ERP systems.Bi-lingual German and English.Bi-Lingual Spanish and English.Why you'll love working for Siemens!

This position is located in Sacramento, CA. The pay range for this position is $80,600-$95,000. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
