Start Date: September 1st, 2025 End Date: November 21st, 2025 AmeriCorps Slot Classification: 12 Weeks - 450 Hours
Purpose:
Define the broad purposes that the program is aiming to achieve, describe the community the program is designed to serve, and state the values and guiding principles which define its standards.Provide a brief (up to 3 sentences) summary of the purpose of member service by outlining the duties and responsibilities of the member and how this role connects within the organization.
Description of Duties:
The mission of the Natural Resources department of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is to preserve, protect, and enhance flora and fauna and their habitats. This is done thorough habitat restoration that incorporates removing non-native invasive plant species and re-establishing the native plant community through spreading native plant seeds and planting native plant species that are propagated at the parks greenhouse.
The intern would take a more active roll in learning about what their local national park is doing to preserve natural resources by providing much needed support to the Natural Resource program in assisting with day to day activites. They will have first hand opportunities to get involved with preserving the parks plant and animal communities by taking part in a variety of restoration activities.
Qualifications:
United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien At least 17+ years of age Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of elementary or secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant, and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.Interest and/or experience with biology, ecology, or related subjects.The successful applicant must be reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.Strong verbal and communication skills.Active team memberWork well with others dispite personality differencesSelf-starter, creative, strategic, and resourceful.Must be comfortable and proficient speaking to large groups of people, including children.Must be able to stand and walk for extensive periods, and in some cases, over rough surfaces or inclines carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, etc.Must be able to work full days outside in high or low temperatures, or adverse weather conditions.

Benefits:
Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,956.00 Living Allowance of $600.00 per week. Additional Benefit of $100.00 per week.
Evaluation and Reporting:
As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
