Role of YES Member at Homestead National Historical Park
Homestead National Historical Park remembers the many legacies of the Homestead Act of 1862. The Homestead Act gave individuals an opportunity to earn 160 acres of land from the federal government if they lived on the land for 5 years, built a shelter, and improved the land. The Act lasted 163 years and settled ten percent of all land in the United States.
Homestead National Historical Park has a large collection of unorganized photos taken at the park site and during park activities. These photos are not comprehensively organized, or accessible. Stewards Individual Placements, in partnership with Homestead National Historical Park, are seeking a YES service member to review and organize photos to be compiled into a comprehensive and accessible database. The YES member will work closely with the Park Ranger, and the Visual Information Specialist to write/develop alternative text of the media, ensuring photos are 508 compliant, ready to be used by screen readers, and more accessible for everyone to utilize\. This position will also assist with routine visitor service at the front desk.
Description of Duties:
To achieve the goals of this YES position, the member will:
· Review existing photos to determine if they should be deleted or if they should be categorized for future use· Organize photos in a comprehensive way to be uploaded and stored to a comprehensive database system for future use· Work to develop and provide alternative text for each photo· Support front desk and visitor center services

Time Requirements:
Typically, this position is expected to serve Saturday to Wednesday, but exact service schedules may vary. A half hour lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service Member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.Commit to 12 weeks of AmeriCorps serviceOrientation and Training:
Member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activitiesHomestead National Historical Park also has a clear leadership structure that promotes active trainings and opportunities for feedback at all levels. The service member will participate in all staff trainings and meetings. These trainings include a daily safety meeting, monthly all staff meetings, and divisional meetingsTraining and Orientation with the Visual Information Specialist on utilizing a database template, and proper logging of the photosBenefits:

As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
