Indirect Tax Senior Analyst

Scope of Role

The Indirect Tax Senior Analyst is an important member of the Corporate Tax department and will be a key partner to the US Indirect Tax Director for the preparation of indirect tax compliance and associated processes; including, but not limited to, U.S./Canada sales and use tax filing, use tax purchases review, and property tax returns and analysis.   Key areas of focus will include process improvements leveraging technology to effectively utilize data retrieved from accounting systems and directly assist with migration to single sales organization as part of the on-going corporate Digital Transformation Architecture initiative.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing tax research, exemption certificate management, assisting in state tax audits, responding to notices and assisting with other tax return filings.

Key Responsibilities

Preparation of indirect tax compliance including U.S./Canada sales and use tax returns and property tax filings, plus direct coordination with third-party preparersEnsure that all returns and payments are timely filed and remitted, and that all source data and supporting documentation is appropriately maintained in accordance with Corporate and department expectationsAssistance with data gathering for sales and use tax audits, focusing on minimizing cash taxes paidMonitoring tax law/regulations/rulings, etc. for changes that might impact the Corporation’s sales and use tax liability, creating plans for system or process changes needed, and timely bring to management’s attention to mitigate potential exposure to our company or customersAssist in the implementation of departmental streamlining and process improvement initiatives, including utilization of key technologies such as Excel and AlteryxResearch state tax issues including nexus determinations, taxability analyses and quantification of potential liabilitiesCreation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures for indirect tax areas of responsibilityOther duties and responsibilities as needed

Professional Experience/Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with CPA, MST preferred4+ years’ experience in either public accounting or industry accounting, with an indirect tax focus preferredStrong tax technical and tax research skillsExperience with indirect tax software (e.g. Avalara, Vertex) preferred as well as experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle)
