In Vivo Services Lead

The Opportunity:

Avantor is seeking a dedicated and experienced In Vivo Services Lead, to manage our on-site research services team in Cambridge, UK. In this critical role, you will oversee the daily operations of an in vivo research facility supporting preclinical studies. You’ll be responsible for managing a team that delivers essential services—including animal care, facility compliance, and scientific support—ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and research integrity.

This full-time, permanent position is based at The Discovery Centre, a world-class research site in Cambridge. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and an extra day off for your birthday.

Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The Team

You’ll lead a skilled team working within a regulated in vivo environment, delivering services such as animal husbandry support, consumables and waste management, enrichment activities, and equipment coordination. This role is part of Avantor’s Lab and Production Services division, which partners with global pharmaceutical leaders to support scientific innovation.

What we're looking for

- Education: PhD or equivalent degree/experience in Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology or a related field

- Experience:

Extensive experience working in an in vivo research setting, ideally with a Personal Licence (PIL)Solid understanding of AAALAC standards, animal welfare legislation, and IACUC proceduresProven leadership in managing a scientific support team within animal research facilitiesFamiliarity with Lean methodologies and project managementProficient in data analysis, reporting, and IT systemsExcellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills

Lead and manage the in vivo facility team, ensuring ethical animal care, regulatory compliance, and high-quality scientific supportCoordinate daily operations, including consumables, waste management, equipment and enrichment servicesAct as the primary liaison for stakeholders, maintaining clear communication and ensuring service alignment with research needsDrive continuous improvement through Lean methodologies, innovation projects and performance tracking, to enhance service deliveryEnsure compliance and safety, overseeing documentation, audits, training and adherence to AAALCA, IACUC, and H&S standards
