Imaging Care Technician

Position Purpose:  

Under the direction of a technologist / radiologist, the imaging care technician (ICT) is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. ICT demonstrates department-designated competencies. The ICT will assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship centered care. 

What the Imaging Care Technician will need: 

HS Diploma or GED 

Six (6) months of previous related experience in the area of patient care delivery required. 

Successful completion of formal department orientation required to meet the quality and productivity standards of the job. 

Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, and other employees 

Ability to: 

Follow instructions and record patient information. 

Prioritize assigned tasks and organize work. 

Walk and stand for 90% of shift. 

Lift, turn, and position patients. 

Concentrate and pay close attention to details for over 90% of time. 

Able to work in area with potential exposure to infectious agents and/or contaminants. 

 

What the Imaging Care Technician will do: 

Prepare exam room for arrival, assists in transfers to/from modality table and assists in discharge of patients 

Orient patient/family to waiting and changing areas 

Prepare patient for exam 

Verify patient name, date of birth and medical record number and exam to be performed 

Obtain pertinent information from patient chart such as admitting assessment/diagnosis, allergies, list of medications 

Perform modality specific patient interviews / tasks as delegated such as pre-MRI screening form, contrast forms, patient history forms, discontinue peripheral intravenous 

Collect/send/transport labeled specimens to the lab 

Perform activities which may be modality specific such as venipuncture, obtaining blood specimens, starting and discontinuing IV lines (not to include regulating drip rate), routine oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry 

Gather data for post procedure check such as peripheral pulses, vital signs, presence of hematoma and circulation checks 

Perform patient care functions within but not limited to PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), RIS (Radiology Information System), Hospital Order-Entry System 

Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas.  

Transport patient as needed.  

Clean and maintain equipment according to procedures 

Attends annual BLS certification.
