Smith Building City Albany State NY Zip Code 12210 Duties Description Duties will include, but are not limited to: • All tasks of fingerprint processing o Comparing fingerprint images o Processing fingerprint transactions o Quality Control o Verification/Validation o Audit Queue o Comparing name search candidates in the Demographic Data Search (DDS) o Resolving transactions in the Fatal Queue to complete processing o DNA Fingerprint Processing • Using authorized biometric software to read, interpret and update the State and federal criminal history records which are maintained by DCJS • Resolving transactions requiring special handling including issues such as: o Poor quality o Handling FBI discrepancies o Missing Arrest o Mixed IDs o Rejected Transactions o Scan Card Messages o Resolving issues on the Ident to Base/NCIC reports o Arrest Information Updates • Prepping and card scan entry mailed-in ink & roll fingerprint cards • NYSID re-inserts and RDL (Rockefeller Drug Law) inserts for the FBI • Correspondence by email, mail, and phone • Working with outside law enforcement agencies such as the FBI, NYSP, NYCPD, Sheriff’s Departments, local law enforcement, and District Attorney’s offices and civil contributors • Monitoring the electronic mailbox for request of certified criminal histories, certified fingerprint cards and fingerprint comparisons • Mailing certified criminal histories, certified fingerprint cards, and fingerprint comparisons • Preparing letters for requests of certified criminal histories, certified fingerprint cards, fingerprint comparisons and subpoena requests • Careful review of documents prior to dissemination • Use of scanners and copiers • Handle customer tickets reporting problems. • Review, compare and complete daily and monthly reports to ensure complete and accurate processing of transactions • Civil Validation • The incumbent will work as a part of a team to ensure processing is on schedule and meets all standards. • Successful completion of the SABIS proficiency tests for pattern classification and image verification on a yearly basis Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Either 1. An associate’s degree or higher in any fieldOr 3. 30 semester credit hours AND one year of qualifying work experience Or 4. two years qualifying work experience Qualifying Experience: for the purposes of this examination, work experience includes experience in one or more of the following related areas: customer service, financial services, healthcare, administrative, local government, criminal justice or public safety or any position that requires detail-oriented work within state regulations and procedures. If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.NY HELPSThis title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Permanent service in this title and eligible for reassignment, or one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-9 or higher and otherwise eligible for transfer under Civil Service Law, or reachable on the current promotion eligible list for this title.
