IAM Architect
Role Definition:
The role of the IT Architect within the Identity Access Management (IAM) organization of Caterpillar Cybersecurity is to serve as a consultant and expert in IAM technology where decisions and recommendations are recognized as authoritative in the IAM domain.
What You Will Do:
Provide architecture solution services and counsel to IT and business driven projects. Create and maintain architectural best practices, addressing application, data and technology in the context of the business process. Lead the development of Architecture Solutions for Strategic Enterprise projects and programs. Solve problems by determining the best course of action, within Department guidelines, from many existing solutions. Contribute to the development and alignment of the IAM roadmaps with the IT and business strategy. Collaborate with peers to identify and analyze enterprise business drivers and requirements that drive the future state architecture. Engage in strategy and architecture development for new enterprise technology platforms. Initiate and deliver technology evaluations and recommendations. Develop and maintain current, planned, and future state architecture blueprints. Typical customers include employees within multiple business processes or functions including multiple Business Units and Divisions, dealers, suppliers, and customers.
Some of the key challenges facing this position are: leveraging knowledge in the IAM and IAM Data domains to share with others; balancing short-term thinking against long-term strategy; understanding the IT and business strategies; aligning IAM solutions to enable the IT and business strategies; developing strategic partners; delivering state-of-the-art solutions, architecture, and research projects as well as consistently acting in a proactive manner to advance the Business, IT and IAM strategies.
Individuals must demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment as they anticipate and solve unprecedented business problems. The position is challenged to identify problems quickly and correctly, which are not obvious. Projects are typically complex and integrate business issues and problems, multiple application solutions, multiple IT Technologies across various architectures. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions and works dependently with no oversight or direction. Communication for needed investments, architectural changes, or business needs is critical to ensure solutions can be created to meet strategic business capability needs.
What You Have:
Industry recognized certification in security (e.g., IDPro, CISSP, CISA, CISM, etc.).
Extensive knowledge and experience with industry leading IAM solutions such as Active Directory, Entra ID, Entra External ID, Conditional Access, CyberArk, Ping Federation, Multifactor Authentication, Digital Certificates, Identity Management solutions, SailPoint, etc.
Extensive experience in AI and data analysis solutions such as Snaplogic, Snowflake, RAG Workflows, Language Models, and Agentic AI.
Extensive experience in business analysis, documentation, and user access review.
Good knowledge of Caterpillar policies, standards, and procedures, with broad understanding of Caterpillar’s organization.
Accredited, four-year Information Technology degree, a closely related technical degree, or equivalent experience.
Strong experience and recognition as a domain expert in IAM and IAM data competencies.
Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills and able to deliver messages to technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to balance Customer Experience and IT governance.
High level of customer focus with professional communication skills.
Demonstrated quick and clear decision-making skills in a collaborative environment.
Ability to think broadly and strategically, balanced with high attention to detail.
Able to execute on multiple projects simultaneously in fast-paced environments.
Possesses a service and solution-oriented approach.
Take responsibility and achieve results.
Excellent organization, time management. and priority setting skills.
A certification in TOGAF or similar framework and advanced degree in a relevant field are highly desirable.
Experience in multiple business processes or organizations and experience in multiple IT disciplines is also beneficial.
Excellent, hands-on technical knowledge and experience working in an enterprise infrastructure and applications environment.
Ability to share knowledge and collaborate by developing content and documentation for distribution to other team members, managers, and customers.

The primary locations for this position are: East Peoria, IL, Nashville TN, or Dallas, TX
This position may require 10% travel.

Summary Pay Range:
$144,960.00 - $217,320.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
