HVAC Technician Job DescriptionOverview

An HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

Primary ResponsibilitiesInstall, maintain, and repair HVAC systems and componentsDiagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic controlsPerform preventative maintenance on HVAC equipmentRead and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and specificationsTest systems for proper functioning and make adjustments as neededComply with all applicable codes, regulations, and safety standardsDocument work completed and parts usedRespond to service calls and emergency situationsExplain system operations and maintenance requirements to clientsOrder parts and maintain inventory of tools and equipmentQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED; technical/vocational training or associate degree in HVAC preferred2+ years of experience in HVAC installation and repairEPA Section 608 certificationValid driver's license and clean driving recordKnowledge of local building codes and HVAC standardsStrong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skillsPhysical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in confined spacesExcellent customer service and communication skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamWillingness to work evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations as neededPreferred SkillsExperience with building automation systemsKnowledge of energy efficiency principlesFamiliarity with different types of HVAC systems (residential, commercial, industrial)Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation
