HVAC Specialist - 1st Shift, Lawrence, KS

The HVAC Specialist position reports through the Maintenance Department within the Lawrence Production Center.  

 

The Maintenance Mechanic in Lawrence is full time 40 hours a week, Monday - Friday 7:30am - 3:30pm

Competitive hourly rate - $26-$38 based on experience

 

The HVAC Specialist performs a variety of tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the plant’s support systems at the Lawrence Production Facility. This includes, but is not limited to, Boilers, Chillers, Air Handling Units (AHUs), Compressors, Pumps, and Chemical Treatment Systems. The primary focus of this role is to ensure the building’s heating and cooling systems are functioning efficiently while maintaining all support equipment in a reliable and operational state. This position requires availability for overtime and the ability to respond to emergency HVAC calls outside of regular working hours (compensated accordingly).

 

In this position you will:

Effectively troubleshoot, repair and maintain commercial sized heating and cooling equipment within the Lawrence Production Center and local properties. To utilize the HVAC Windows based building automation system to monitor/operate linked equipment to efficiently provide environmental control to the complex. Effectively troubleshoot, repair and maintain commercial grade/sized refrigeration equipment. To repair and maintain industrial scale plumbing, electrical, data components and HVAC related systems that support the facility’s operations. The installation, troubleshooting and repair of electronic, pneumatic, data components and systems that are used for operational control and visibility. To use chemical applications accurately and effectively in the variety of heating/cooling systems to inhibit scale, biological, and corrosion. Utilize good safety practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Ability to push, pull, grasp, lift and carry items weighing up to 30lbs frequently and up to 100lbs occasionally. Utilize fine finger movements Handle objects requiring manual dexterity Work in awkward / cramped or difficult positions Ability to constantly stand, walk, twist, bend, and reach at/above shoulder level. Must have a Universal E. P. A. refrigerant certification.

Must be able to interpret blueprints, electrical schematics and technical manuals.

Must have knowledge related to the commercial HVAC field curriculum as follows: HVAC, Electricity for HVAC, Principles of Heating, Venting, & A/C, Fundamentals of Refrigeration, Commercial Heating and Cooling, Commercial Refrigeration, Industrial Electrical principles. In addition, the incumbent must have a Universal Refrigerant Handling License.

Minimum 2-year equivalent experience in the installation, diagnostic, and repair of commercial size/grade heating and cooling equipment. This experience must include competencies in operating low-pressure boilers, chillers, and large air handling units. In conjunction, must have skills in basic plumbing, soldering, welding, electrical, and mechanical equipment (pumps, motors, etc.) operation and repair. In addition, the incumbent must have experience with a building automation system.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proficient with Window environment to ensure quick ramp-up on current maintenance/management software program

Demonstrate aptitude in the installation, programming and troubleshooting of building automation control DDC components and software.

Basic math, written and oral communication skills, as well as basic computer skills. Ability to set up area and work under pressure to meet production targets. Ability to understand and follow established safety procedures for wearing PPE, lock/and tagout, and handling hazardous chemicals. Ability to accept other duties as assigned. Ability to learn and retain knowledge. Ability to work as a team member.

The following tools, equipment, materials and/or substances are used in performing the essential functions of this position: Welders, torches, pipe threader, drill press, cutting saws, chemicals and refrigerants (used in testing and maintaining systems), refrigeration test equipment, plumbing tools, lifting equipment, ladders, multi­ meters, refrigerant recovery machines, etc. Work overtime as required during peak seasons This is a working environment that requires wearing appropriate PPE and following operating procedures when working with hazardous chemicals, hazardous energies, and in harsh operating environments without climate controls Required to operate hand powered tools and industrial shop machinery There is some noise and hearing protection is required by Hallmark Moderately exposed to excessive noise Moderately around moving machinery Moderately exposed to marked changes in temperature and/or humidity. Moderately exposed to dust, fumes, gases, radiation and microwave Moderate degree of driving motorized equipment Moderate degree of working in confined quarters

 

This position is located in Lawrence, Kansas.  Relocation is not provided.
