**Job Summary**
The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems to ensure a safe, comfortable, and compliant environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role performs routine preventive maintenance, emergency response repairs, and system monitoring across facility equipment in alignment with regulatory and organizational standards.
**Essential Functions**
+ Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs HVAC/R systems including air handlers, chillers, boilers, compressors, pumps, VAV systems, and related components.
+ Responds promptly to urgent service requests involving HVAC issues, leaks, equipment failures, and facility emergencies such as hazardous spills, fire alarms, and weather-related needs.
+ Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC/R systems and associated infrastructure; documents findings and initiates corrective work orders as needed.
+ Monitors, tests, and adjusts building automation systems (BAS) and environmental controls to ensure energy efficiency and optimal performance.
+ Orders and tracks inventory and parts for repairs and maintenance activities; ensures timely documentation of labor, materials, and task completion.
+ Completes Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) prior to performing work in patient care areas to maintain safety and compliance.
+ Identifies and reports potential facility issues while navigating facility spaces; creates or completes work orders to address issues found.
+ Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and compliance checks in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
**Qualifications**
+ 3-5 years of experience in commercial or healthcare facility HVAC/R maintenance required
+ Experience working in a hospital or medical facility preferred
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
+ Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing HVAC/R systems, including electrical and control systems.
+ Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal building codes and environmental regulations.
+ Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
+ Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
+ Effective communication and documentation skills.
+ Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
+ Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
+ Commitment to safety and infection prevention protocols in healthcare environments.
**Licenses and Certifications**
+ Active Refrigeration, Universal, or Healthcare Mechanic license/certification or obtained within the first two (2) years of employment required
+ EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification (EPA 608) required
+ BCLS - Basic Life Support required
+ Certified HVAC Technician preferred
