HV Battery Cell Integration Engineer

We are responsible for integrating and optimizing high-voltage battery cells and arrays across hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric (EV) platforms. Our work ensures each new vehicle program meets its attribute targets, and that our existing products continue to receive world-class support.

The HV Battery Cell Integration Engineering, within Ford’s Electrified Powertrain Engineering team, plays a pivotal role in our electrified vehicle programs

EPE is charged with delivering the best fuel economy and refinement in every hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicle segment we serve.

You'll have... 

B.S. in Engineering (Chemical Engineering with energy-storage emphasis preferred; Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with battery experience acceptable)

Hands-on experience in design & release engineering for automotive or high-reliability products

Strong analytical skills; proven ability to evaluate designs and data for automotive applicability

Proficiency in data-analysis tools (MATLAB, Excel, Concerto, INCA, ATI or similar)

 

Even better, you may have...

Familiarity with powertrain and battery control systems, test scripting, and CAN communication

Self-motivated, quick learner, excellent written/verbal communicator, and a collaborative team player

What you'll do...

Pre-Production Start (pre-PS) Design & Release

• Lead core design and release activities for battery cells.

• Define requirements for quality, cost, performance and weight targets

• Interface with battery pack, powertrain (thermal, mechanical, electrical) and controls teams

Chemistry & Configuration Development

• Evaluate new cell chemistries and form-factors; run trade-off studies

• Coordinate cell-level and pack-level modeling for powertrain attribute analysis

Program Management & Deliverables

• Prepare and review GPDS (Global Product Development System) deliverables and reporting for next-gen programs

• Develop program timing plans, highlight and mitigate schedule risks

• Work with Purchasing on RFI/RFQ packages and supplier selection

Benchmarking & Characterization

• Benchmark competitive cell and array designs

• Plan and execute electrical characterization tests

Supplier Collaboration & Roadmaps

• Build relationships with cell suppliers to understand technology roadmaps

• Lead TVM (Total Value Management) and SREA (Supplier Request for Engineering Approval) for ongoing programs

Warranty & Field Support

• Drive warranty return investigations, in-house or supplier tear-downs

• Analyze root causes and implement corrective actions
