Human Resources Generalist - 18 Months (Contract)
The Human Resources Generalist provides support in functional areas of human resources in relation to recruitment, personnel records, and employee relations. Works closely with Division HR Managers and develops positive, professional working relationships with managers and employees.



 

GFL Environmental is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our team in Southwest, ON!

This hands-on, operational role is ideal for a dynamic HR professional with a proven ability to engage with front-line employees and drive positive change within a fast-paced, highly operational environment.

Reporting to the Human Resources Director, the HR Generalist will play a key role in implementing HR strategies aligned with organizational goals, while serving as the primary point of contact for HR needs across the GTA area.

Key Responsibilities:

Serve as a hands-on partner to all levels of local leadership across a full range of HR generalist duties, with a strong focus on fostering a collaborative and transparent workplace culture.

Provide measured, objective, and sound employee and labour relations advice; interpret and guide operations on collective agreements and employment legislation.

Coach supervisors and managers on employee performance issues, offering practical resolution options for both labour and employee relations matters.

Lead inclusive employee engagement efforts, utilizing direct, transparent communication and a solutions-oriented approach.

Collaborate with GFL’s functional HR teams to support the implementation of programs and change initiatives across assigned client groups.

Monitor, interpret, and analyze HR and business metrics, synthesizing insights for senior leadership decision-making.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Comfortable operating in a dynamic, evolving, and operational business environment.

3–5 years of experience in an operational HR generalist role, with demonstrated success in driving change management initiatives.

Post-secondary education in Human Resources and a professional HR designation (or currently pursuing one).

In-depth knowledge of current Human Rights and Employment Standards legislation.

Experience in operational acquisitions and post-acquisition support is preferred.

Ability to work independently under pressure and adapt to shifting priorities and timelines.

Willingness and ability to travel across the region.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).

Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Self-motivated with effective time management capabilities.

Working Conditions:

Approximately 90% of work will be performed in an indoor office environment.

Travel via air and/or automobile is required.
