General Statement University Human Resources takes pride in and is enthusiastic about supporting the University’s mission and strategic plan by providing professional and dedicated leadership, guidance, and administration of classification, recruitment, payroll, benefits, and employee/labor relations to the Montana State University Bozeman campus, Agricultural Experiment Stations, and Extension Service.

The person in this position provides dedicated support in the area of employee benefits as a member of the University Human Resources team. Core responsibilities center on customer service, including responding to inquiries and requests, as well as administrative functions such as maintaining detailed spreadsheets and utilizing databases extensively. Duties and Responsibilities Benefits Administration: Determine eligibility for benefit enrollment according to Montana University System program rules. Respond to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, enrollments, status changes, and other general inquiries. Assist employees with the annual benefits enrollment and re-enrollment processes.

Data Management: Communicate, monitor, maintain, and reconcile technical and detailed benefits-related data. Process benefits-related data entry with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Generate reports related to benefits data as needed. Customer Service & Team Support: Serve as a primary point of contact for benefits, providing an exceptionally high level of customer service while maintaining confidentiality and discretion. Provide training on benefits topics. Effectively manage inquiries in a high-volume, dynamic work environment. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Customer Service: Experience providing excellent customer service in a professional office environment. Communication: Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret and communicate detailed information, procedures, and directions clearly and accurately in person, by telephone, and through written correspondence. Organizational Skills: Proven ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities. Technical Proficiency: Experience using personal computers and various software packages, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email; proficiency with Microsoft Office is preferred. Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Experience providing customer service in a complex organizational environment. Familiarity with human resources and/or benefit policies and procedures. Experience using multi-relational databases. The Successful Candidate Will Effective Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to collaborate successfully and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the public in person, over the phone, and in writing. Ability to represent the university in a professional manner with a positive attitude.

Ability to analyze issues within the broader human resources context, identify process shortcomings, and provide integrated solutions. Adaptability and Initiative: Demonstrates a desire to increase knowledge, acquire new skills, and willingly take on new projects and challenges. Ability to interpret and apply state and federal regulations, as well as university and departmental policies and procedures. Attention to Detail:Possesses strong attention to detail and can apply basic math skills accurately.
