YOUR ROLE

The HSE Improvement Business Partner plays a critical role in advancing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) performance across our Above Water Systems business at Garden Island, NSW. This position is dedicated to ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and best practices while cultivating a proactive safety culture.

The HSE Improvement Business Partner will analyse performance data to uncover opportunities for enhancement, implement strategic initiatives aimed at driving HSE excellence, and actively engage stakeholders to instil a zero-harm mindset throughout the organisation. By fostering collaboration and leveraging insights, this role is essential in building a safer and sustainable work environment.

Role is customer facing and professionalism required in a complex customer project and regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Development of HSE Improvement Initiatives

Review and analyse existing systems of work to develop and implement HSE improvement strategies aligned with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.Drive a culture of continuous improvement through structured change management and innovation in HSE practices.

HSE Improvement Program Implementation

Lead improvement programs to mitigate risks, including overarching systems of works to enable HSE teams to support with assurance activities and implementation activities on siteDevelop and deliver HSE training programs, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns tailored to identified needs.Mentor and coach operational staff and HSE professionals to improve performance and engagement.

Performance Monitoring & Analysis for Business Improvement

Collect, analyse, and report on HSE performance metrics to identify system improvements in relation to trends and potential risksBenchmark performance against industry standards and internal KPIs.Develop and track the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

Stakeholder Engagement

Linking the Quality Assurance function with continuous improvement and together co-create efficienciesEngage with employees at all levels to promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure consistent HSE expectations and performance.

Auditing & Compliance

Conduct internal HSE audits and inspections to ensure compliance of HSE improvement initiativesEvaluate business outcomes in relation to current practices to optimise ways of working and drive continuous improvementAssess and challenge the status quo - Are we employing the most effective methods? Are we meeting organisational needs, and is there potential for improvement in our processes?

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.Minimum 5  years of progressive experience in HSE roles or HSE training backgroundProven track record in leading safety improvement initiatives in defence, manufacturing, construction, mining, etc.Strong knowledge of HSE legislation, risk management principles, and behavioural safety strategies.

Desirable:

Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.Experience in large and complex environment and projects Certification in Management Systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
