The Health, Safety, Environment Facilitator drives employee engagement by supporting and interacting with the workforce implementing and driving all HSE systems including programs, plans, SOPs, safety meetings & training sessions related to HSE.  The HSE Facilitator also conducts safety and environmental audits & inspections and submits associated regulatory documents while supporting the sites Plant Managers promote safety and environmental plans. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities ​

Facilitate and engage with workforce driving Safety Engagement Programs, HSE training, Investigations & Learning Teams, Safety Committees, Auditing and Inspections, and communicationsMaintains all environmental permits and authorizations required for facility operations. Supports external Environmental compliance and all reporting. Coordinates environmental day-to-day compliance systems and activities within facility management to reduce environmental impact and liabilities.Supports Safety and Health tasks to ensure alignment with the 14 BlueScope HSE Standards along with the Codes of PracticesSupports systems including procedural updates, document control, internal & external auditing, corrective actions and non-conformance tracking and all site communications as necessary.Accompany Management with interacting with all outside regulatory compliance personnel.Work in liaison with HR managing employees under the Workers Compensation programDirect and oversee assigned facilities PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) selection, distribution, use, care, maintenance

Education & Experience Qualifications

Minimum:       

Minimum 2 years’ experience facilitating HSE ProgramsExperience in influencing large groups of personnelMust be able to develop and deliver presentation to groups of personnel

Preferred:       

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science or equivalent professional experience and/or education plus experience combinationExperience in heavy industrial environmentCPR and First Aid certifications24 Hour HAZWOPER certification

Working Conditions & Physical/Mental Demands

Work assignments are typically deadline drivenSafety equipment or protective gear is required as necessary (e.g., insulated gloves, protective eye wear, hearing protection, safety belts, hard hat, fall restraint, arm guards, weld hood, safety shoes)Ability to distinguish sounds is required for safety purposes. Being hearing impaired may be life threatening in the environment.May be required to lift, carry, and/or move equipment/supplies weighing up to 50 poundsMay be required to stand or walk up to 80 percent of the time, including long durations of standing or walking up to 8 to 10 hours dailyWork requires continuous mental attention and high alertnessMay be exposed to adverse or hazardous conditions including, but not limited to, high-speed machinery and production equipment, work at heights, and/or near dust, fumes and gasesMay be exposed to excessive or loud noise where hearing protection is requiredWork takes place in extreme hot or cold temperaturesSignificant reading in English required via Internet and/or bound volumesWork may be sedentary, or desk boundMay be required to conduct presentations, facilitate training, and/or speak in front of large groups of peopleSpeaking required by telephone and/or in personGood close vision required for viewing paper copies and/or computer screensRequired to distinguish colors on monitoring equipment, paper copy, computer screen, or for safety purposes where vision impairment may be life threateningOn-call support may be required and may include 24x7 coverage
