As an HR Manager, you will be responsible for managing the full-cycle onboarding and new hire process, ensuring compliance with union agreements and federal/state EEO regulations. You will serve as the primary HR contact for field employees, addressing issues and disputes, and handling off-boarding processes. Additionally, you will review and improve onboarding materials, assist with unemployment claims management, and coordinate with the safety department to enforce safety guidelines and handle workers' compensation claims.
Responsibilities
+ Manage the full-cycle onboarding and new hire process, ensuring compliance with union agreements and federal/state EEO regulations.
+ Serve as the primary HR contact for field employees, addressing issues and disputes, and handling off-boarding processes.
+ Review and improve the company's new hire packet and onboarding materials to ensure compliance.
+ Assist with unemployment claims management and dispute resolution.
+ Coordinate with the safety department to enforce safety guidelines and handle workers' compensation claims.
+ Support the recruiting team in sourcing and evaluating candidates, especially for hard-to-fill positions.
+ Implement a new HRIS system and transition the company from paper-based to electronic HR processes.
+ Proactively identify areas for process improvement and prepare for future HR needs as the company grows.
Essential Skills
+ 3-5 years of HR experience, preferably in a highly regulated industry or with federal/state compliance.
+ Understanding of union agreements and contract negotiation processes.
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with field employees.
+ Ability to work independently and proactively address HR-related issues.
+ Familiarity with HRIS systems and electronic HR processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in the construction industry or with federal highway projects.
+ Experience in mining and/or transportation industries.
+ Proven ability to manage recruitment, onboarding, benefits, compliance, and employee relations in a fast-paced environment.
+ Direct collaboration with union representatives for hiring and labor coordination.
+ Hands-on experience with I-9 processes, including compliance for foreign workers in U.S. Territories.
+ Solid understanding of federal, state, and local labor laws, with multi-state exposure preferred.
+ Exceptional organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
Work Environment
This is a 5-day, on-site position working closely with the accounting team. The office is located in a unique and inspiring environment resembling a modern mountain home with high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling retractable glass doors, situated just above the Truckee River. The office includes a full kitchen and a large covered deck with seating and a BBQ. An office dog is present on-site about three days per week. The commute is to the office located in Sparks, and the position offers its own glass-enclosed office with a river view.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.05 - $45.67/hr.
