Job Description:

To lead and unify the High Net Worth (HNW) underwriting function across International HuBS, establishing and maintaining superior underwriting standards that ensure consistent and timely assessments. The role aims to deliver an exceptional, uniform broker experience across all international operations, while driving excellence in underwriting practices and fostering strong relationships with brokers and stakeholders. This strategic position requires leadership skills to elevate the overall quality and efficiency of the underwriting process.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

Lead a unified HNW underwriting team operating across time zones for exceptional service deliveryEnsure consistency in underwriting decisions across HNW businesses while adhering to Sun Life corporate UW philosophyCreate and manage a shared services function that supports the unified UW teamCollaborate with Sun Life Global Underwriting on guidelines and risk mitigation strategies.Liaise with the global UW team to enhance UW manuals to maintain competitiveness and respond to new market opportunities.Serve as the primary contact and manage relationship with reinsurers and brokers from an Underwriting standpoint.Leverage the collective underwriting expertise from across the HuBS team to develop distinctive and sought-after underwriting propositions in response to market demands and drive business growth.Cultivate a collaborative work atmosphere and improve productivity in UW across the three locations.Facilitate employee career advancement and support organizational succession planning for the unified UW function.Partner with relevant technology and data teams to perform analytics, identify trends and improvement opportunities for the function.Drive innovation and adoption of new technologies including AI to improve the UW process and practices.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Extensive experience in high net worth and ultra-high net worth underwriting, risk assessment, and complex case management.Ability to integrate underwriting philosophy for innovative underwriting processes that drive competitive advantage.Proven track record in maintaining high standards, consistent underwriting evaluations, and adapting processes to changing market conditions and client requirements.Experience in developing and implementing programs to enable brokers to become ambassadors of HNW products and services.Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills to interpret industry trends, create management reports, and develop long-term plans for underwriting processes and team growth.Expertise in developing solution-oriented underwriting processes, with knowledge of artificial intelligence and automation applications in the field.Strong leadership skills to attract, retain and develop a shared services and case underwriting team, fostering a collaborative work environment and addressing team challenges.Ability to build excellent relationships and regularly connect with key stakeholders such as BU CEOs, reinsurers, intermediaries, and corporate entities.Experience in creating innovative underwriting propositions  to drive business growth and maintain our competitiveness.
