Job Summary:
Responsible to section, stain and mount tissue specimens in preparation for microscopic examination by the Pathologist. Assists the Pathologist in making various examinations on submitted tissue specimens and subsequent preparations. Performance of duties is in accordance with CLIA ’88 guidelines. Performs quality control, quality assurance, maintenance and troubleshooting. Duties may also include clerical tasks, specimen collection, and related laboratory services.
Requirements:
Associate degree that includes 12 hours in both biology and chemistry OR At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes 12 semester hours of both biology and chemistry AND 1 year of documented clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last five years.
ASCP certification or eligible for certification as Histology Technician by ASCP required within 6 months of the completion of the 1-year in-house training program.
