The community you’ll be caring for: AdventHealth Tampa
· AdventHealth Tampa, a faith-based not-for-profit 626-bed tertiary-level acute care hospital located in the uptown district of Tampa, Florida, specializes in advanced cardiovascular medicine, neuroscience and neurology, digestive health, orthopedics, women’s services, pediatrics, oncology, endocrinology, bariatrics, wound healing, sleep medicine and general surgery including minimally invasive and robot-assisted procedures. GME programs on the hospital campus currently include general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine and transitional year.

The role you’ll contribute:
Processes specimens for pathologic diagnosis, tissue fixation, processing, preparing and staining slides for microscopic examination by the pathologist.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
· Assists in training new employees and histology students/interns while providing leadership and mentoring to histotechnicians, fellow histotechnologists, and laboratory support staff to maintain optimal operations and outstanding customer service .
· May perform quality control testing, equipment maintenance, identification of problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results, and troubleshooting practices .
· Ensures the analytic accuracy, precision, and sensitivity in test methods .
· Maintains established facility and department policies and procedures .
· Performs analytical activities related to specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special histologic staining, frozen sectioning, cover slipping and handling of irreplaceable tissue, surgical and body fluid specimens .
· Participates in proficiency testing program as assigned. Ensures that proficiency testing deadlines are met and samples are analyzed in the same manner as patient samples.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Associate in a related field Required .
2 years experience as a Histology technician/technologist in a Histology laboratory setting Required .
HT - Histotechnologist - ASCP Required .
ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist Required .
In licensure states, must hold licensure as a Histotechnologist for the department or location assignment as applicable to the state Required.
